Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact
Director of Business Decision Support & Financial Performance will assume a key role within the Kinectrics Finance team by leading and building a team to maintain accurate financial records and provide timely and insightful management reporting, benchmarking, financial and variance analysis to support management decision making with respect to optimizing Kinectrics operations and achieving corporate and financial objectives.
This role will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer to build and enhance performance reporting, benchmarking to relevant industries and provide recommendations for continuous improvement to processes and reporting. This involves establishing a cohesive, high-performance team of Business Analysts and international equivalents (BA’s) who work closely with the operational teams at the profit center level to create the budget, provide monthly report and develop financial forecasts on a monthly basis and explain the key drivers of variances to actual results. This role will define and track critical metrics for the individual P/L’s and lead a team of BA’s who enables Kinectrics to strategically react to business performance to optimize resource allocation.
The successful Director will partner with the key Operations executive and their leadership teams to provide timely and actionable information. The role will work closely with the heads of PMO, Purchasing, CIO, etc. in developing and implementing changes to Kinectrics accounting systems.
We are seeking a talented and motivated top performer to join our team with a background in operational finance in a multi-entity and complex operating environment. You will combine strategic thinking with a strong track record of driving financial excellence, performance, and results. You will be a data-driven expert comfortable with building excel models, budgeting and forecasting, decision support analysis and resource optimization.
- Assisting in project planning, controls, and monitoring
- Developing and maintaining models related to cost performance
- Reviewing cost control and financial reporting procedures and recommend changes or improvements as necessary.
- Assisting in the preparation of department budget and forecasting, gathering departmental data, assessing the validity, and reporting into appropriate formats.
- Responsible for the annual and quarterly target setting process
- Responsible for financial reporting of the department, including multi-entities within the business area.
- Providing advice, guidance, recommendations and assistance to line staff and management in assessing
projects, reporting, cost benefit analysis, and cost allocation.
Reporting:
- Ensure alignment of Pillar based monthly management reporting with key highlights and analysis
- Perform Margins, P&L and Balance Sheet analysis and reviews together with Pillar leads and CFO
- Lead and co-ordinate the monthly variance analysis of financial results and comparisons to annual budgets, forecasts and prior year, along with explanations of key drivers
- Build the narrative that explains the Operational results and plans to the Executive Management team;
- Financial tools and dashboard development to support operations;
- Support Central Finance team with external reporting requirements and variance explanations.
- Lead Cashflow reporting requirements (Treasury) by consolidating inputs from multiple sources (i.e. Tax, AP/AR, etc.)
- Backup and support CFO for internal and external reporting requirements
Business Decision and FP&A Support:
- Leads analysis of financial information to support effective business decisions;
- Manage and support the Business Analysis team, ensuring business planning and financial forecasting process and the annual budgeting process is consistent across the team and all Finance and Operations deadlines are met;
- Support the refinement of the monthly forecasting process, working with the Central Finance teams;
- Analyze and interpret operating and financial results to identify trends and activities driving those results and make recommendations on potential changes, both operational and financial in nature, to improve performance;
- Provide competitive benchmarking and optimization of company resources including resource allocation decision support;
- Adhoc analysis as needed.
Central Finance and Parent Company Support:
- Promote process improvements that focus on elimination of complex manual processes;
- Support finance related projects, e.g., SAP migration, internal and external audit requests, tax strategy planning, transfer pricing, etc.
- Cash management planning, providing accrued, deferred revenue forecasts, accounts receivable collection timing as well as accounts payable forecasting in collaboration with Central finance teams.
- Ensure adherence and consistency with capital expenditure business case justification and analysis to support investment decisions.
- Work closely with counterparts at Kinectrics’ parent company to establish and promote shared best practices.
Performance and Leadership:
- Leads by example and achieves results by effectively communicating technical job performance expectations.
- Facilitate internal relationships and effective use of resources.
- Responsible for staffing and resourcing decisions, including scheduling and assigning work.
- Provide mentoring and development to employees and contribute to the recruitment of new staff.

- Provides training and develops training materials for skills development for both day-to-day operations as well as for growth and improved performance.

- Creates and maintains a positive culture focused on worker morale and corporate social responsibility; trains and develops team leads and supports growth within the Business Analyst (BA) group.
Build and manage a high performing financial team as part of growing- Kinectrics Operations:
- Drive new work practices that focus on continuous improvement, simplifying and streamlining of core operational analysis to steer the organization to the best quality outcomes and ensure that financial models are compatible with corporate/financial objectives;
- Ensure team provides excellent customer service, including consistent, accurate and timely information while maintaining responsibility for training and development of the financial acumen of the BA’s and Operational senior leadership team and adhering to financial governance objectives
- Allocate resources to meet business needs, and over time seek process efficiencies to reduce the overhead costs of the functions.
- Initial focus will be on working towards a more cohesive approach to financial support across the business and living the “One Kinectrics” vision.
- Assess the skills and capabilities of the Business & Financial Performance team members against the Kinectrics competency model and key technical skill sets;
What You Need To Succeed
- An undergraduate degree/diploma in the appropriate field (business administration, accounting, mathematics) or equivalent.
- Requires a CPA designation.
- 10+ years related experience in business analysis/project analysis.
- Advanced Excel, PowerPoint, and Office365 skills.
- Experience with SharePoint an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills and the willingness and ability to lead change in the finance function.
- Detailed and focused with strong analytical skills, ability to prepare financial reports for senior leadership team.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with a sense of urgency and accountability.
- Good understanding of HU (Human Performance) tools to develop an error free culture, based on continuous improvement and self-checking.
- Extensive ERP knowledge and experience, with SAP preferred
- Good familiarity with utility and OEM project/industry/technology and understanding of aspects of work programs and projects associated with cost engineering, work planning and project performance analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team of individuals with diverse skill sets aligning them to exceed organizational goals.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and high commitment to quality and delivering on client commitments, including experience in leading complex projects to successful conclusions.

This role requires the successful candidate to complete the security clearance process. The security clearance process is conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and may take up to 12 months to complete.
