Project Manager – Mass Timber Installation
Kinsol Timber Systems is a Vancouver Island & Oregon based company that erects and installs heavy and mass timber structures across North America. We work from an office in the Cowichan Valley, on projects that take us across Canada and the United States. The role
We're looking for a Project Manager to take mass timber installation projects from award through closeout. You'll own scope, schedule, and budget on fixed price contracts, and you'll be the person our clients call. Day to day that means building and maintaining the execution plan and schedule, tracking expenses, performance management, and billing against a rolling forecast, negotiating and administering contracts and change orders, coordinating procurement, and keeping architects, engineers, general contractors, and our own crews pointed in the same direction.
You'll be responsible for seeing risk before it becomes a problem and dealing with it early, for holding the line on quality and safety, and for reporting progress in real-time. You see problems as opportunities, and propose solutions to those problems when escalating. When a job wraps, you'll run the post-mortem and make sure what we learned shows up on the next on.
Expect occasional travel. Our projects are spread across two countries, and your ability to visit a job site is part of the job.
What we're looking for
You've managed construction projects for at least five years, ideally on the subcontractor side, and you can point to large-scale work you brought in on scope, schedule, and budget. You understand how baselines work and why change management is where projects are won or lost. You communicate clearly with everyone from a crane operator to an owner's rep, and you're comfortable negotiating. You also know when to dig into the details, and when to delegate them.
Mass timber or structural steel experience is a significant asset. If you don't have it but you have a real grasp of the materials and the installation methods, we're interested. A degree in construction management or engineering is welcome, as is a PMP, though neither is a hard requirement. Working knowledge of scheduling software, Excel, and Financial ERP’s is expected. You'll need to be able to travel to the US as a business visitor on occasion.
