The Opportunity
Klohn Crippen Berger (KCB) is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Power and Transportation Group. This leadership role is ideal for a seasoned engineer with 15+ years of experience in the project management, planning, design, rehabilitation, and assessment of hydromechanical systems for hydropower facilities.
The successful candidate will provide technical leadership on complex hydroelectric projects, lead multidisciplinary design efforts, and serve as a senior technical reviewer, ensuring engineering excellence, quality, and compliance with industry standards. This role offers opportunities to contribute to major hydropower developments and rehabilitation projects across North America and internationally while mentoring the next generation of engineers.
KCB’s mechanical group specializes in hydropower infrastructure and associated mechanical systems. Our projects include work on water control gates and hoists, large valves, turbines, penstocks and the balance of plant systems for hydroelectric generation stations (piping, pumping, HVAC, drainage). In addition to the hydroelectric projects, we also work with moveable bridges, cranes, and large pumping systems for mining projects. Our team combines deep technical expertise with a collaborative and supportive culture that encourages innovation, technical growth, and professional development.
This Role Will Give You The Opportunity To
- Lead the planning, design, analysis, and rehabilitation of hydromechanical systems for hydroelectric generating facilities and water infrastructure projects.
- Provide engineering expertise for water control structures, gates, hoists, bulkheads, stoplogs, valves, penstocks, intake systems, and related equipment.
- Lead feasibility studies, conceptual designs, detailed engineering, specifications, and procurement support activities.
- Serve as a Senior Reviewer for engineering deliverables, including calculations, reports, drawings, specifications, and design packages.
- Manage and coordinate multidisciplinary project teams.
- Interface directly with clients, contractors, equipment suppliers, and regulatory agencies.
- Support project planning, budgeting, scheduling, risk management, and resource forecasting.
- Mentor junior and intermediate engineers and designers.
- Provide guidance on hydromechanical design methodologies, industry standards, and engineering judgment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Canada
- Minimum 15 years of relevant experience in the design and assessment of hydromechanical systems for hydropower and water resource infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience conducting senior-level technical reviews and quality assurance reviews of engineering deliverables.
- Excellent technical writing, communication, and client-facing skills.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and managing complex projects.
- Strong working knowledge of MSWord, Excel, Mathcad, Revit, Inventor, SolidWorks and hydraulic design software
- Ability to travel to remote work sites, as required
The expected salary range for this position is $135,000 to $190,000 per year. Compensation above this range may be considered for candidates with significant experience or specialized expertise. The actual salary offered is based on an individual assessment of applicable experience, education, and skill level.
