About the Role
Reporting to the Engineering Services Manager, and working closely in collaboration with the Senior Structural Engineer, this role is responsible for preparing engineering calculations, finite element analysis (FEA), and other technical deliverables in accordance with company standards and professional engineering practices. The successful candidate will take ownership of assigned projects from concept through completion, doing engineering design work and ensuring the quality and integrity of project deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
- Confirm documents and drawings meet scope, applicable codes, standards, regulations, and company formats.
- Perform calculations, dimensions, and technical elements, ensuring completion and accuracy.
- Perform, analyze, and interpret manual calculations and FEA models.
- Ensure FEA models and manual calculations conform to applicable codes and standards.
- Prepare engineering reports detailing calculations and model interpretations.
- Formulate and document repair recommendations.
- Develop and prepare design sketches in the field.
- Witness and document on-site testing.
- Work with Project Delivery team to define and control scope, schedule, and budget on projects.
- With the input of the Senior Structural Engineer, respond to technical questions, comments, and issues arising from projects.
- May be assigned additional duties outside the scope of this job description.
- Comply with company health and safety policies, completing required training, and encouraging a strong safety culture across project teams.
Qualification & Experience
- 2+ years of engineering experience, with a preference for experience gained within a consulting engineering environment. Other relevant experiences will be considered.
- Structural engineering experience with an emphasis on materials like concrete and reverse concrete design, foundation design.
- Experience preparing engineering calculations, technical drawings, specifications, and supporting documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound engineering judgment and independently manage engineering assignments with appropriate supervision.
- Experience managing engineering projects through various phases including client communication, scheduling, budgeting and project delivery.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in use of computers with knowledge of FEA (finite element analysis) software and Microsoft Office software.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license with the ability to travel to project sites as required.
- A degree in civil engineering with a strong academic foundation and Engineer-in-Training (EIT) registration.
- Experience working within a consulting engineering environment is an asset.
