Original job description

Overview

At KPMG in Canada, our people bring their unique perspectives to Canada’s most important challenges. Here, you can build momentum that reaches beyond our business, develop skills for the future, and take ownership of your career with support at every stage. Join a firm where your career can make a difference.

KPMG Corporate Finance Inc. is the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC)-regulated entity through which KPMG LLP provides investment banking services in Canada. KPMG Corporate Finance services are principally comprised of merger, acquisition and divestiture services and financing services including raising debt and equity capital. We offer independent financial advisory and investment banking services to both private and public companies.

With over 100 professionals across Canada and a global network of 3,000+ bankers in 160 offices, we combine local execution expertise with global reach. KPMG Corporate Finance is consistently ranked the #1 mid-market investment bank in Canada.

Our growing diversified investment banking team is seeking an Experienced Analyst / Associate to join our team in Edmonton to play a key role across all aspects of transaction delivery.

What You Will Do

As part of the deal team, you will have meaningful responsibility and direct exposure to senior bankers and client management teams. Your responsibilities will include

Supporting the execution of M&A transactions, including divestitures, acquisitions, debt/equity financings and financial analysis mandates.
Building and maintaining detailed financial models, including operating models, valuation analyses, and transaction structures.
Performing company valuations using a range of methodologies (comparable companies, precedent transactions, DCF, and LBO where applicable).
Analyzing historical and projected financial performance to assess key value drivers, risks, and opportunities.
Conducting industry and market research, including competitive benchmarking and buyer universe analysis.
Assisting in the preparation of client deliverables, including pitch materials, confidential information memorandum, management presentations, and other Corporate Finance materials.
Compiling complex information into clear, concise insights for both internal and client-facing purposes.
Participating in client meetings and supporting senior team members in managing transaction processes.
Developing relationships with current and future clients.

This role provides significant learning opportunities and increasing responsibility over time. At times, business needs arise and employees are required and agree to work beyond their normal work day or work week to fulfill the accountabilities required for their job. Likewise, people need time to devote to personal matters and our approach to flexibility provides for this.

What You Bring To The Role

Undergraduate or master degree in Business, finance, accounting, or a related field.
1–3 years of relevant experience in accounting, finance, investment banking, commercial/corporate banking, private equity, corporate development, or other similar transaction advisory role.
Progress toward, or interest in pursuing, the CPA and CBV designations. CPA, CBV, CFA and or MBA viewed positively but not a prerequisite.
Strong understanding of valuation concepts and key drivers of business value.
High proficiency in Excel with solid grounding in financial modeling.
Strong proficiency in PowerPoint and Word; experience with S&P Capital IQ is an asset.
Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities.
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.
High level of professionalism, accountability, and teamwork.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a high-performing team.
Willingness to travel within Canada and across Canada (very minimal travel required).

What We Offer

Support for candidates enrolled in professionally accredited designation programs (CPA, CBV, CFA, etc.) including paid enrollment costs, paid study / exam days, ongoing coaching and third-party courses / materials for exam preparation.
Meaningful roles on a variety of Corporate Finance assignments for some of Canada’s premier companies, with support and coaching from senior Corporate Finance executives that promote professional growth and development.
Assignment of a Performance Manager on day one to help guide and grow your career as a Corporate Finance professional
Deal Advisory team events throughout the year to help build a strong team culture
Modern office space in our recently renovated downtown offices in Calgary, Edmonton and Winnipeg

Providing you with the support you need to be at your best
