Original job description

Overview

At KPMG in Canada, our people bring their unique perspectives to Canada’s most important challenges. Here, you can build momentum that reaches beyond our business, develop skills for the future, and take ownership of your career with support at every stage. Join a firm where your career can make a difference.

KPMG Law LLP is a national law firm affiliated with the professional services firm of KPMG LLP, with offices in major markets across Canada. As an integrated, multidisciplinary firm, our lawyers work closely with accountants and other professionals on complex client engagements across a broad range of legal and tax-related practice areas.

KPMG Law LLP’s Immigration Law practice is looking for an experienced US immigration attorney to join at the Director level. In this senior role, you will provide strategic advice on complex US business immigration matters, lead client engagements and relationships, and contribute to the continued growth of the practice.

As a Director, you will act as a trusted advisor to clients, taking ownership of complex US immigration matters and providing practical, business-focused legal advice. You will develop senior client relationships, identify opportunities to expand those relationships, mentor members of the immigration team, and strengthen the visibility and growth of KPMG Law’s US Immigration practice.

What You Will Do

Advise clients on complex US business immigration matters, including non-immigrant visas, PERM, immigrant petitions and adjustment of status matters
Lead complex client engagements from initial strategy through delivery, providing practical legal advice aligned with clients’ broader business and workforce needs
Develop and manage senior client relationships, identify opportunities to broaden our support to clients, and contribute to the continued growth of the U.S. Immigration practice.
Manage client proposals, define the scope of engagements, and coordinate related engagement activities.
Oversee a high volume of immigration matters while maintaining quality, responsiveness and compliance with applicable requirements
Mentor and coach lawyers and other members of the immigration team, providing technical leadership on complex and evolving areas of US immigration law
Monitor legislative, regulatory and policy developments and advise clients on implications for their organizations and employees
Contribute to thought leadership, client alerts and presentations, and collaborate across KPMG Law and the broader KPMG organization to identify opportunities to serve clients across disciplines

What You Bring To The Role

Law degree from an accredited institution and admission to a US state Bar in good standing
Eligibility to obtain and maintain any authorization required by the Law Society of Ontario to provide advice in Ontario regarding US law, including a Foreign Legal Consultant permit, as applicable
A minimum of 12 years practising corporate US business immigration law, advising clients on complex immigration matters.
Significant experience leading corporate US immigration programs
Deep technical knowledge of US business immigration, including non-immigrant visa matters, PERM, I-140 petitions and I-485 applications
Experience with employment-based and family-based consular immigrant visa applications
Proven ability to independently lead complex client engagements and provide strategic, business-focused legal advice
Strong track record of developing senior client relationships, identifying business development opportunities and contributing to practice growth
Experience mentoring and coaching legal professionals, combined with strong legal writing, analytical and communication skills and the ability to manage multiple complex matters in a high-volume environment

Providing you with the support you need to be at your best

Our Values, The KPMG Way

Integrity, we do what is right | Excellence, we never stop learning and improving | Courage, we think and act boldly | Together, we respect each other and draw strength from our differences | For Better, we do what matters

KPMG in Canada is a proud equal opportunities employer and we are committed to creating a respectful, inclusive and barrier-free workplace that allows all of our people to reach their full potential. A diverse workforce is key to our success and we believe in bringing your whole self to work. We welcome all qualified candidates to apply and hope you will choose KPMG in Canada as your employer of choice.

Adjustments and accommodations throughout the recruitment process

At KPMG, we are committed to fostering an inclusive recruitment process where all candidates can be themselves and excel. We aim to provide a positive experience and are prepared to offer adjustments or accommodations to help you perform at your best. Adjustments (informal requests), such as extra preparation time or the option for micro breaks during interviews, and accommodations (formal requests), such as accessible communication supports or technology aids, are tailored to individual needs and role requirements. You will have an opportunity to request an adjustment or accommodation at any point throughout the recruitment process. If you require support, please contact KPMG’s Employee Relations Service team by calling 1-888-466-4778.

AI Usage

We embrace the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance the candidate experience and streamline our recruitment processes. AI tools may help with organizing applications or surfacing relevant qualifications. However, no hiring decisions are made using AI. Every hiring decision is made by our hiring managers and recruitment professionals, who are equipped with training that empowers them to use these tools responsibly. AI technologies used in our recruitment process undergo detailed risk assessments, including security and privacy requirements, that align with KPMG’s Trusted AI framework.

We believe technology should empower human judgment, not replace it. It’s one of the many ways we’re delivering on our vision of being a technology-first, people-driven firm.
