Original job description

Overview

At KPMG in Canada, our people bring their unique perspectives to Canada’s most important challenges. Here, you can build momentum that reaches beyond our business, develop skills for the future, and take ownership of your career with support at every stage. Join a firm where your career can make a difference.

The Tax practice in our Calgary office is looking for a Tax Manager or Senior Manager to join the Private Enterprise Tax group and support our Family Office practice. This is a great opportunity to develop your skills, work with new clients and industries, expand your internal and external networks, and be a key member in the growth of our practice.

KPMG Private Enterprise professionals are dedicated solely to helping business owners and entrepreneurs of privately-held businesses grow thriving enterprises. Our Family Office team provides proactive high-touch service to high-net-worth families and supports them in the transition of family wealth and family businesses. We serve as trusted business advisers, and the right business adviser can make a big difference by contributing valuable perspectives, ideas, and options to help business owners capitalize on opportunities.

You will serve as a strategic advisor to high-net-worth families, partnering with KPMG leaders and clients on tax planning initiatives and family legacy planning. Your organizational skills will enable you to quarterback broad family office services to our clients and their families, bringing a holistic lens to their legacy planning. Additionally, you will research and prepare tax-planning strategies for our clients and take the lead on the delivery of tax filing matters. You will set the standard for junior staff by providing ongoing mentorship support and opportunities for professional development.

What you will do

Lead client engagements and interact directly with clients, including leading regular status meetings with clients and families throughout the year
Work closely with other members of our team as a senior team member on tax planning work for clients

Help evaluate, assess, and anticipate the needs and interests of clients and their families, and recommend potential solutions and value-add services
Advise on planning opportunities, tax minimization strategies, and compliance issues, as well as conduct and present tax research
Review the work of junior staff for accuracy and completeness
Provide ongoing support and mentoring for the professional development of staff
Build strong relationships with clients and the internal team that supports those clients

What you bring to the role

Minimum 5 years of experience specializing in tax in a public accounting firm

Professional Accounting Designation
Completion of FEA (Family Enterprise Advisor) designation or similar is an asset
Excellent leadership and people management skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to research and write utilizing electronic tax tools
Ability to manage conflicting demands and priorities
Strong project management and organizational skills

Natural curiosity and resourcefulness, with the ability to develop and execute new ideas pragmatically

Solid aptitude for building trusting relationships with broad groups of stakeholders, prospects, and clients as well as diverse family members
A strategic thinker with client-centric approaches, as well as deep commercial awareness and a collaborative team approach
Passion for client service excellence
Outstanding attention to detail

Providing you with the support you need to be at your best

Our Values, The KPMG Way

Integrity, we do what is right | Excellence, we never stop learning and improving | Courage, we think and act boldly | Together, we respect each other and draw strength from our differences | For Better, we do what matters

KPMG in Canada is a proud equal opportunities employer and we are committed to creating a respectful, inclusive and barrier-free workplace that allows all of our people to reach their full potential. A diverse workforce is key to our success and we believe in bringing your whole self to work. We welcome all qualified candidates to apply and hope you will choose KPMG in Canada as your employer of choice.

Adjustments and accommodations throughout the recruitment process

At KPMG, we are committed to fostering an inclusive recruitment process where all candidates can be themselves and excel. We aim to provide a positive experience and are prepared to offer adjustments or accommodations to help you perform at your best. Adjustments (informal requests), such as extra preparation time or the option for micro breaks during interviews, and accommodations (formal requests), such as accessible communication supports or technology aids, are tailored to individual needs and role requirements. You will have an opportunity to request an adjustment or accommodation at any point throughout the recruitment process. If you require support, please contact KPMG’s Employee Relations Service team by calling 1-888-466-4778.

AI Usage

We embrace the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance the candidate experience and streamline our recruitment processes. AI tools may help with organizing applications or surfacing relevant qualifications. However, no hiring decisions are made using AI. Every hiring decision is made by our hiring managers and recruitment professionals, who are equipped with training that empowers them to use these tools responsibly. AI technologies used in our recruitment process undergo detailed risk assessments, including security and privacy requirements, that align with KPMG’s Trusted AI framework.

We believe technology should empower human judgment, not replace it. It’s one of the many ways we’re delivering on our vision of being a technology-first, people-driven firm.
