Overview

At KPMG in Canada, our people bring their unique perspectives to Canada’s most important challenges. Here, you can build momentum that reaches beyond our business, develop skills for the future, and take ownership of your career with support at every stage. Join a firm where your career can make a difference.

In every economic environment, there are opportunities to create, enhance, and preserve value. Our Deal Advisory professionals help buyers, sellers, private equity investors, governments, and lenders in developing and executing on their value strategies.

Within KPMG’s Transaction Services practice, our Deal Advisory professionals provide financial due diligence services on behalf of our clients to help drive value from M&A (Mergers & Acquisitions) with a forward-thinking approach to deal planning.

As a Managing Director, Transaction Services, you will play a senior leadership role in growing KPMG’s Transaction Services practice in Atlantic Canada. In addition to leading complex financial due diligence engagements, you will originate new opportunities, develop and own senior client relationships, build a sustainable book of business, and contribute meaningfully to the growth of the broader Deal Advisory practice.

The role has a particular focus on the Private Enterprise market and is suited to an entrepreneurial, commercially ambitious self-starter who can build on an established network while creating new relationships and opportunities.

What you will do

  • Identify key issues, plan and supervise the execution of financial analysis, coordinate other work streams (e.g., work performed by foreign KPMG offices, M&A tax, IT, post-merger integration, HR and pension consultants, etc.)
  • Evaluate a business’ historical performance, key drivers of growth and profitability, sustainability of earnings/cash flows, working capital cycles, financial projections, key contractual commitments, accounting policies, and management control environment
  • Handle complex issues, interpret results, find solutions, report key findings, and make recommendations
  • Write detailed professional reports and presentations of key analysis with pertinent findings
  • Own and grow a portfolio of key client relationships, acting as a trusted senior advisor to business owners, executives, private equity investors and other stakeholders throughout the transaction lifecycle
  • Lead senior client and intermediary relationships across engagements, including with business owners, C-suite executives, attorneys, lenders, private equity investors and other transaction stakeholders
  • Originate and convert new business opportunities, with accountability for developing and maintaining a sustainable personal pipeline and achieving agreed annual revenue targets set by Private Enterprise Leadership.
  • Lead, coach and develop a high-performing Deals team in Atlantic Canada, creating opportunities for junior professionals and building the capabilities required to support growth of the practice
  • Leverage an established network and credible book of relationships within the Private Enterprise market, particularly across Atlantic Canada, to generate new opportunities for Transaction Services and the broader firm
  • Proactively identify opportunities to cross-sell KPMG capabilities across Deal Advisory, Tax, Audit and other service lines, and mobilize multidisciplinary teams around client needs

Build KPMG’s profile in the Atlantic Canadian deal community through relationships with business owners, private equity investors, lenders, lawyers, investment bankers and other transaction intermediaries

What you bring to the role

  • Must have CPA / CA or equivalent designation.
  • Minimum of 10 years of Transaction Services / Mergers and Acquisitions experience, together with Accounting/Audit experience in a consulting, advisory, or private equity environment, and a demonstrated track record of originating and delivering transaction advisory engagements
  • Ability to build and manage a meaningful book of business, independently own key accounts, and operate against defined sales and revenue objectives
  • A credible network of relationships within the Private Enterprise and broader deal community, ideally in Atlantic Canada, with evidence of successfully converting relationships into advisory opportunities
  • Evidence of successful cross-selling across service lines and the ability to identify broader client needs and mobilize multidisciplinary teams
  • Entrepreneurial, commercially ambitious and self-starting leadership style, with the ability to build a market and team with a high degree of autonomy
  • Demonstrated ability to attract, coach, develop and retain high-performing professionals and create an inclusive, collaborative culture
  • Based in Atlantic Canada, preferably Halifax, with willingness and ability to travel throughout Atlantic Canada for client and business development activities and occasionally more broadly in Ontario

Providing you with the support you need to be at your best
