Original job description

Overview

At KPMG in Canada, our people bring their unique perspectives to Canada’s most important challenges. Here, you can build momentum that reaches beyond our business, develop skills for the future, and take ownership of your career with support at every stage. Join a firm where your career can make a difference.

KPMG Asset Management Digital Solutions (KPMG AMDS) sparks innovation and fuels change to unlock value and prepare for the future. KPMG AMDS helps organizations discover opportunities through our far-reaching innovation and intelligence capabilities. The team is committed to learning and development and solving tax technology problems for the firm.

We are seeking a highly experienced, hands-on Senior Software Engineer with 8+ years of professional software-development experience to design, develop, and support enterprise applications using the Microsoft technology stack.

This is primarily a coding and technical-delivery role. The engineer will work with local stakeholders and an offshore development team, provide technical direction, review code, mentor less-experienced engineers, and remain actively involved in software development.

What you will do

Design, develop, test, deploy, and support applications using C#, .NET, ASP.NET Core Web API, Vue.js, SQL Server, and Microsoft Azure.
Translate complex business requirements into practical, maintainable technical solutions.
Take ownership of complex features, application components, and technical workstreams.
Contribute to system design, API design, data models, integrations, and application architecture.
Develop solutions using Azure cloud services, particularly application hosting, storage, databases, background processing, and monitoring.
Write automated unit and integration tests and promote strong code-quality practices.
Lead code reviews and troubleshoot complex application, database, integration, performance, and production issues.
Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and support application deployments.
Collaborate with offshore engineers to clarify requirements, coordinate implementation, review deliverables, and resolve technical issues.
Mentor less-experienced engineers through code reviews, pairing, technical discussions, and knowledge sharing.
Maintain technical documentation and communicate technical decisions, risks, and dependencies clearly.

AI-enabled software development

Use approved AI-assisted development tools, such as GitHub Copilot or equivalent tools, for coding, refactoring, test generation, debugging, documentation, and code review.
Review, test, and validate all AI-generated output and remain accountable for its correctness, security, performance, and maintainability.
Establish practical standards and reusable approaches for incorporating AI into the software-development lifecycle.
Identify appropriate uses of AI that improve engineering productivity and quality without compromising established development controls.
Mentor local and offshore engineers in the effective and responsible use of AI-assisted development tools.
Follow organizational and client requirements relating to confidentiality, data handling, security, and acceptable AI usage.

What you bring to the role

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering.
Azure Certifications (Cloud and AI); expert level for e.g. Az-305 or similar.
8+ years of professional software-development experience, with substantial recent hands-on coding responsibility.
Strong experience with C#, modern .NET, and ASP.NET Core Web API.
Strong full-stack development experience with Vue.js, JavaScript or TypeScript, Entity Framework Core, AutoMapper, SQL Server, and LINQ.
Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, SOLID principles, and software design patterns.
Experience designing, building, and supporting applications on Microsoft Azure.
Experience with Azure cloud services, particularly Azure Storage, application hosting, databases, and monitoring.
Strong system-design, API-design, data-modeling, performance, and application-architecture skills.
Experience writing automated unit and integration tests.
Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, Git, pull requests, and code reviews.
Practical experience using AI-assisted software-development tools and evaluating their output.
Strong analytical, debugging, and production-support skills.
Experience working with geographically distributed or offshore development teams.
Experience mentoring engineers and providing technical guidance while remaining actively involved in coding.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
