Original job description

Job title: University Math, Statistics & Economics Tutor

Company Description:

Krsna Academy is dedicated to Developing Conscientious Thinkers. We tutor IB and university students across Canada with a simple belief: in a world where AI can produce any answer instantly, the most valuable skill a student can have is the ability to think for themselves. Our tutoring is personalized to each student’s courses, strengths, and goals, and is built around understanding, not memorization.

Role Description:

This is a contract, hybrid role based in Toronto, ON, delivered mostly online with some in-person sessions. You’ll tutor university students one-on-one and in small groups in courses such as Calculus, Linear Algebra, Statistics, Econometrics, and Micro/Macroeconomics.

Many of our students have used AI and still feel lost before an exam. Your job is to find where their understanding broke down and rebuild it, so they can explain the method, catch their own mistakes, and solve problems they haven’t seen before. Day to day, you’ll prepare sessions tied to each student’s syllabus, teach, use tools like AI-generated solutions as teaching material, and share short progress notes through our learner portal.

Pay is $40–50/hr, depending on experience and subject. Hours are flexible, with peak demand in evenings and before exams.

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree (completed or in progress) in mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related field; strong senior undergraduates with TA experience will also be considered
  • Tutoring, TA, or teaching experience at the university or IB level
  • Ability to explain the intuition behind a method, not just the steps
  • Patience and clarity with students who are stressed and short on time
  • Comfort teaching online with digital whiteboards and video
  • Inclusive teaching practices, including experience with neurodivergent learners (an asset)

Screening question:

  • A student shows you an AI-generated solution they can’t explain, and their midterm is in two days. How would you spend your first 15 minutes with them?
