ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

This position reports to the Manager, Brand and Marketing Operations within the Marketing department.

Summary

The Marketing Student Assistant (Creative Studio) supports the development of creative products and branded experiences that celebrate and promote Kwantlen Polytechnic University while providing meaningful work-integrated learning opportunities.

Working collaboratively with the Marketing department and, where appropriate, faculty members and technical staff across the University, the Student Assistant will contribute creative ideas, concepts, prototypes and finished products that represent KPU's brand and enhance the student experience.

Projects will be tailored to the successful candidate's area of study, creative strengths and available hours. Depending on the student's discipline, projects may include product design, apparel, illustration, ceramics, woodworking, textiles, digital fabrication, packaging, print design, photography, visual art, or other creative works that support the University's marketing initiatives.

This position provides students with the opportunity to apply classroom learning in a professional environment while building a portfolio of real-world work that may ultimately be produced, displayed or distributed by KPU.

This position is reserved for KPU Students only.

Key Responsibilities

Collaborate with the Marketing department to develop creative concepts, products and experiences that support the KPU brand.
Design, prototype and refine unique products and merchandise for use in student recruitment, events, alumni engagement, donor recognition and other University initiatives.
Participate in brainstorming sessions and contribute innovative ideas that showcase the creativity and diversity of the KPU community.
Work with faculty members, instructors and technical staff to utilize specialized equipment, studios and fabrication spaces where appropriate.
Prepare concepts, prototypes and production-ready files for review and approval.
Incorporate feedback throughout the creative process while maintaining project timelines and quality standards.
Research emerging trends in product design, sustainability, university merchandise and creative experiences.
Assist in documenting creative projects for marketing, promotional and portfolio purposes.
Support the presentation or showcasing of completed work through University events, retail opportunities and other marketing initiatives.
Represent KPU professionally while collaborating with students, faculty and staff across multiple disciplines.

Qualifications

Currently enrolled in a diploma, degree or trades program at KPU.
Demonstrated creativity through coursework, portfolio, personal projects or previous experience.
Interest in design, product development, fabrication, creative technologies, fine arts, trades or other creative disciplines.
Strong creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
Ability to receive and apply constructive feedback throughout an iterative design process.
Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities.
Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a collaborative team.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Reliable, self-motivated and detail oriented.
Experience with creative software, tools, equipment or production methods relevant to the student's discipline is considered an asset.

WORK-INTEGRATED LEARNING

This position is designed to provide students with meaningful hands-on experience by contributing to real marketing initiatives while developing professional skills and industry-ready portfolio pieces. Students will gain experience collaborating with stakeholders, managing creative projects, presenting concepts, responding to feedback and developing products that have the potential to become part of KPU's brand and campus experience.

SALARY INFORMATION

Student Assistants Are Paid As Per The Following

Less than one year of post-secondary (less than 30 credits) – BC Minimum Wage
One year of post-secondary (30-60 credits) – BC Minimum Wage plus 8%
With a post-secondary diploma or degree – BC Minimum Wage plus 21%
