About L’Arche Calgary
L’Arche Calgary is a community where people with and without intellectual disabilities share life together, building meaningful relationships based on mutual respect, dignity, and belonging.
At L’Arche, we believe that every person has unique gifts and contributions to offer. Our homes are places where people are supported to live meaningful lives, develop friendships, participate in their communities, and experience a true sense of belonging.
About the Position
L’Arche Calgary is seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and flexible Full-Time House Assistant to join our Annapurna home.
The primary responsibility of this position is to provide individualized, one-on-one support to a core member (an adult with an intellectual disability), assisting with their daily needs, personal goals, activities, and community participation.
While the role focuses primarily on supporting one individual, the successful candidate will also be an integral part of the Annapurna team. We are looking for someone who understands the importance of teamwork and is willing to assist other core members and contribute to the daily life of the home whenever needed.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who enjoys building meaningful relationships, providing person-centred support, and contributing to a welcoming and supportive community.
Key Responsibilities
Individualized Support
Provide consistent, compassionate, and person-centred one-on-one support to a core member.
Assist with daily routines, personal care, and individual needs while promoting dignity, choice, and independence.
Plan and participate in meaningful activities based on the individual's interests, preferences, and personal goals.
Support participation in recreational activities, community outings, appointments, and social opportunities.
Safely transport core members to appointments, activities, and community outings as required.
Encourage independence, personal development, and meaningful relationships.
Follow individualized support plans and maintain appropriate documentation and communication.
Teamwork and Household Support
Work collaboratively with the House Leader and other members of the Annapurna team.
Be willing and flexible to provide support to other core members when needed.
Assist with household responsibilities, including meal preparation, cooking, cleaning, laundry, and maintaining a welcoming home environment.
Participate in house activities, team meetings, and community events as required.
Communicate effectively with team members to ensure continuity and quality of support.
Demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to respond to the changing needs of the home and its core members.
Health, Safety, and Community Life
Promote the health, safety, dignity, and well-being of all core members.
Follow L’Arche Calgary policies, procedures, and individualized support plans.
Support a safe, respectful, and inclusive living environment.
Participate in required training, orientation, and ongoing professional development.
Contribute positively to the shared life, values, and mission of L’Arche Calgary.
Qualifications and Skills
High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous experience supporting individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities is an asset.
A genuine interest in building meaningful relationships with people with intellectual disabilities.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
Ability to provide individualized support while remaining flexible and responsive to the needs of the wider house community.
Willingness to assist with personal care, household responsibilities, and community activities.
Patience, compassion, reliability, and a positive attitude.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team.
First Aid/CPR certification is an asset.
Must possess a valid Alberta Class 5 (non-GDL) driver's licence.
Must be willing and able to drive core members to appointments, activities, and community outings as required.
Satisfactory Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.
Willingness to participate in L’Arche Calgary's required training and formation.
What We Are Looking For
We are particularly interested in someone who:
Enjoys providing consistent, individualized support and building trusting relationships.
Is attentive to the unique needs, interests, and preferences of the person they support.
Understands that supporting one core member also means being part of a larger household community.
Is a team player who willingly steps in to help other core members and colleagues when needed.
Is comfortable assisting with cooking, cleaning, and other household responsibilities.
Demonstrates flexibility, initiative, and a genuine commitment to the mission and values of L’Arche.
