Our clients range from early-stage startups and venture studios to recognizable retail brands and exciting enterprises. Some of our notable clients include Google, Shopify, Coinbase, Alchemy, Hinge, OVO, Polymarket, and more.

We are a remote-first organization headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, with employees worldwide. We believe in providing the best experience possible for all Lazerites by fostering a strong community through regular events, company vacations, competitive compensation, unlimited PTO, and more!

Join Lazer and help us solve problems and build the next generation of products!

The Role

We’re looking for a Senior QA Engineer to own quality on a large enterprise Shopify program. You’ll shape the testing approach, guide the QA effort on the project, and keep stakeholders informed through launch. This is a contract role starting in December.

Please Note: This is a 6-month Contract position. The ideal candidate should be able to work in hours aligned to Eastern Time (EST) or Pacific Time (PST).

What You’ll Do:

Own the test strategy from test plans to launch sign-off, and prioritize testing by risk and business impact
Test the storefront against acceptance criteria. That covers product and listing pages, search and filters, cart and checkout, promotions, navigation, content, wishlist, and consent.
Test the integrations behind the store:
- ERP and inventory feeds (such as SAP)
- Order management and store fulfillment (ship-to-home, BOPIS, ship-from-store)
- Marketplace orders (such as Mirakl)
- Search and merchandising (such as Bloomreach)
- Customer data and POS
- Payments, gift cards, and fraud tools
- The middleware that connects them
Validate data as it moves between systems through APIs and file-based transfers (S3, SFTP), including transaction log reconciliation
Separate real defects from work still pending on other teams or vendors, and keep the defect list accurate
Be the QA point of contact for client stakeholders and developers, including a weekly QA status report
Lead and support the QA team on the program
Manage test cases in TestRail and track defects and QA work in Jira and Confluence
Build end-to-end test automation (Playwright preferred) when the program is ready for it
Use AI tools like Claude every day, for example to draft test cases, and review the output carefully

What You Bring:

Hands-on experience testing Shopify stores, including cart, checkout, and promotions
Integration testing on enterprise commerce programs: ERP, order management, or middleware, using API testing (Postman or similar) and file-based data feeds
A working grasp of version control, CI/CD, and native vs. headless Shopify
Hands-on experience with a modern automation framework such as Playwright, Cypress, or Selenium
Experience owning quality as the main or only QA on a project, including deciding what to test first and triaging defects
Clear, warm communication with developers, client stakeholders, and leadership, in written and spoken English every day
Regular use of AI in your QA work, openness to completing a Claude certification during onboarding, and availability to work Eastern Time (ET) business hours

Nice to Have:

Experience formally leading QA engineers
Retail systems experience, such as POS, store fulfillment, or marketplace platforms
Agency experience across several client projects in a year
Headless Shopify (Hydrogen) experience
Accessibility testing basics, such as keyboard navigation and screen readers

We like working with people from varied backgrounds. If you match most of this but not every line, we’d still like to hear from you.

AI in our hiring process
We use AI to help us review and shortlist applications based on job-related criteria. A human hiring manager always makes the call on who moves forward. As a company that builds with AI every day, we're all for candidates using it too - just be upfront about how it helped.

Why Work With Us

🚀 Accelerate Your Growth: Work across multiple industries and cutting-edge projects with a team that ships fast.
💥 Maximum Impact: Shape the future of the tech industry by helping ambitious projects reach their potential.
🏅 True Ownership: Everyone ships code and has real autonomy with minimal meetings.
💡 Continuous Learning: Be part of a team of senior engineers and designers who love learning and knowledge sharing.

Why This Might Not Be For You

🤖 You Resist Modern Tools: We leverage AI and cutting-edge technology to build rapidly and focus our energy on solving the most complex, high-impact challenges for our clients.
🏗️ You Crave High Structure: We thrive in an autonomous, fast-moving environment, which means you need to be comfortable with some ambiguity.
😴 You Prefer Conventional Careers: Our consulting approach involves varied projects and direct client interaction - it's not for everyone.
1️⃣ You Like Staying in One Lane: Our projects require adapting to different tech stacks and modern tooling quickly.

Benefits & Perks

🌐 Work From Anywhere: Choose your workspace - all you need is strong wifi and a passion for building!
🧘‍♂️ Work / Life Balance: We believe in our team’s ability to have it all; a great career, and time to unplug and live…you know...life.
🩺 Employee Care: We provide full benefits (healthcare, dental, vision) for our employees (401k for our US employees)
🏖️ Unlimited PTO: Everyone needs a break. Take at least 15 days off a year, and more if you need - just be cool about it and keep the team in mind.
🎉 Regular Team Retreat: Join us for a week of team bonding at amazing destinations. Recent trips include the Dominican Republic, Cancun, and Hawaii - plus ones welcome.
