People Analytics and Data Engineer

This position is onsite

This is a contract position for a period of 12 months.

Are you an experienced People Analytics and Data Engineer looking to join a collaborative and supportive team that’s passionate about the power of data to improve employee experience and transform organizations with decision making and advanced people analytics? Reporting to the Director, HR Strategy & Innovation, you will help partner with HR and Business leaders to architect human capital data foundations that uncover powerful workforce insights, translate complex workforce challenges into business outcomes, and shape the future of talent through meaningful analytics and story telling.

As the organization’s primary advisor on workforce analytics, you will shape the analytics roadmap and identifying high-impact opportunities. This role blends advanced analytics capability with technical data engineering to produce scalable, secure, and intelligent data ecosystems that enable predictive, real-time, and human capital workforce insights and organizational accountability.

About the Role

Data Architecture, Engineering & Pipeline Development

Design and maintain analytics-ready data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, and data models supporting people analytics.
Design OLAP-style data structures, including snapshot tables within Microsoft Fabric per requirement, to support historical workforce tracking and analytics.
Develop and optimize data models, schemas, and architecture, applying best practices (e.g., star schema, semantic modelling) to support advanced analytics, dashboards and machine learning.
Build and maintain Power BI dashboards, data models and DAX logic, integrating multiple data sources into, user-friendly, analytics-ready datasets.
Implement batch data ingestion and Transformation using modern cloud platforms and Tools.
Ensure data quality, reliability, consistency, and performance across the data lifecycle.
Transform data into clean useable high-quality reliable data for analysis; collaborate with the Workday Technology and other HR Teams to seek process improvements, resolve inconsistencies and data errors.

People Analytics Enablement., Insights and Storytelling

Partner with HR Technology, HR teams, and Business Leaders to translate workforce questions into scalable data solutions.
Build datasets to enable predictive analytics, workforce planning (demand, forecasting scenario planning), talent segmentation and organization health metrics e.g. employee experience, turnover, position management.
Lead the enhancement of workforce analytics products, dashboards, and reports that support board reporting, strategic planning, talent management, DEI and organizational health.
Develops sound analytical models (including predictive and prescriptive) using multiple data sources.
Provide strategic direction to external vendors supporting employee-experience dashboards, ensuring analytics outputs align with organizational priorities.
Conduct advanced analysis and develop narratives on workforce trends to guide enterprise-wide transparency and accountability with metrics and government mandated workforce requirements.
Deliver big-picture storytelling data insight materials to support strategic planning, key decisions and program insights for continuous improvement opportunities.

HR Data Governance

Partner with HR Technology teams to optimize system configuration for data integrity to improve reporting capabilities.
Lead the design and maintenance of business and data dictionary in collaboration with HR data stewards, owners, and Technology custodians.
Help develop and maintain data management tools and procedures to ensure compliance with security and data privacy regulations.
Promotes responsible data practices and transparency in workforce analytics.

On-going business advisory and support

Conducts frequent analysis of human capital issues, retail industry, beverage and alcohol sector, consumer trends, and competition to inform the strategic decisions of LCBO.
Remain current on emerging technologies, innovations, and best practices in the industry; challenge the status quo with forward-looking perspectives.
Use analytical skills to support ad hoc requests from stakeholders and projects to help uncover issues and offer solutions.

About You

Must have

5+ years experience in a data analytics role or equivalent analytics experience
Experience with large data sets from disparate data sources, data mining, and proven understanding of the principles of relational databases
Expert in designing data models and semantic layers
Expert in data analytics and visualization
Expert in MS Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI – including advanced DAX, Power Query Advanced knowledge and skill in statistical modelling.
Advanced knowledge and skill in SQL for analytics (CTEs, Windows function, Joins etc.)
Experience in storytelling

Nice to have

Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or other quantitative discipline or equivalent business experience and education
Workday reporting
People analytics experience
Experience with data engineering tools and platforms such as DBT, Microsoft Fabric or related cloud data technologies.
Applied AI & Machine learning literacy
AI prompt engineering, generative AI literacy and AI ethics and bias awareness
