Original job description

The LCI Group is a boutique forensic hydrological engineering firm providing independent hydrology and hydraulic engineering expertise for rivers, lakes, coastal, and ocean environments. We support complex litigation, insurance claims, and infrastructure disputes across Canada and around the world.

Our team helps lawyers, law firms, insurance companies, and other clients navigate the technical complexities of surface water engineering. We specialize in translating sophisticated engineering concepts into clear, understandable language for clients, judges, juries, and stakeholders.

Unlike traditional consulting firms, we work on unique and challenging local and international projects where clients seek us out directly for our specialized expertise. We are passionate about delivering technically rigorous work while maintaining a positive, collaborative, and enjoyable workplace culture.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a motivated Junior Civil Engineer with a focus on Hydrology and Water Resources Engineering to join our growing team.

In this role, you will contribute to a diverse range of projects involving hydrological and hydraulic analysis, flood assessments, infrastructure design, forensic investigations, and expert support for legal proceedings. You will work alongside experienced specialists on technically challenging projects while continuing to develop your professional and technical skills.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct hydrological analyses to assess water availability, watershed response, and flood risk.
Perform channel and pipe hydraulic calculations for water conveyance systems.
Develop and apply numerical hydraulic models to simulate flow conditions in rivers, channels, culverts, and pipe networks.
Conduct hydrological modelling to evaluate watershed behaviour under various scenarios.
Prepare detailed technical reports, analyses, and recommendations for clients and stakeholders.
Assist with forensic engineering investigations related to legal disputes and insurance claims.
Conduct field reviews and site inspections to verify design assumptions and site conditions.
Prepare technical sketches, drawings, and supporting documentation.
Collaborate with senior engineers on water resource management, flood mitigation, infrastructure design, and expert witness projects.
Maintain high standards of technical accuracy, quality assurance, and professional practice.

Qualifications

Required

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Hydrology, Water Resources, or a related discipline.
Minimum 1 year of experience in hydrological and/or water resources engineering.
Experience with hydraulic and hydrological modelling.
Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated technical writing experience, including hydrotechnical and engineering design reports.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Active membership with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC), or eligibility for membership.
Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel as required.
Hold Canadian citizenship and reside in British Columbia.

Preferred

Experience with industry-standard hydraulic and hydrologic modelling software.
Exposure to floodplain mapping, river engineering, drainage design, or forensic engineering investigations.
Interest in applying engineering expertise within legal and insurance-related environments.
Dual Canadian-US citizenship considered an asset.

What Sets You Apart

A genuine passion for hydrology and water resources engineering.
A proactive, self-starting attitude and eagerness to learn new skills.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to technical excellence.
The ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively.
A well-rounded background with interests, achievements, and passions beyond engineering.

Why Join The LCI Group?

Work on unique, high-profile projects and legal cases across Canada and internationally.
Gain exposure to forensic engineering and expert consulting work.
Collaborate with industry-leading hydrology and hydraulic specialists.
Develop your technical and professional expertise in a supportive environment.
Be part of a modern, boutique firm that values quality, innovation, and teamwork.
Enjoy a culture that combines technical excellence with a genuine passion for what we do.
