Position Summary
We are seeking several highly skilled and motivated Intermediate Systems Engineer to join our growing engineering team in Ottawa and actively contribute to the design, development, integration, and delivery of our core products within the Electronics Warfare domain. As a member of the engineering team, you will integrate into our agile scrum environment and collaborate closely with software, test, and product teams.
In this role, you will provide technical leadership and systems engineering expertise throughout the project lifecycle. You will be responsible for translating customer and mission needs into system requirements, supporting system architecture and design activities, managing technical baselines, and ensuring successful system integration and deployment. The successful candidate will possess strong systems engineering knowledge, technical problem-solving skills, and mission awareness to help deliver complex solutions that meet customer needs.
Key Responsibilities
· Elicit, analyze, document, and manage system requirements derived from customer, operational, and stakeholder needs.
· Develop and maintain system architectures, concepts of operation (CONOPS), and system design documentation.
· Allocate and trace system requirements to subsystem and software components.
· Support system design reviews, trade studies, and technical decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.
· Produce and review technical documents, specifications, interface control documents, and system design artifacts.
· Collaborate with software and test engineering teams to ensure successful system implementation.
· Support system integration activities and troubleshoot technical issues across multiple engineering disciplines.
· Manage requirements traceability and support configuration and change management processes.
· Participate in project lifecycle events, including gate reviews, design reviews, integration activities, customer demonstrations, and acceptance events.
· Support verification, validation, and qualification activities to ensure delivered systems meet customer requirements.
· Contribute to risk identification, mitigation planning, and technical planning efforts.
· Support proposal development, technical estimations, and solution definition activities as required.
Required Qualifications
· 3 to 6 years of relevant systems engineering experience.
· Experience with requirements development, management, and traceability.
· Experience working on complex, multidisciplinary engineering projects involving software, hardware, and system integration.
· Experience supporting projects through the full lifecycle, from requirements definition through deployment and sustainment.
· Familiarity with systems engineering processes, methodologies, and best practices.
· Experience with configuration management and change control processes.
· Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical communication skills.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to interact effectively with customers and stakeholders.
Desirable Qualifications (Nice to Have)
· Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies and tools.
· Familiarity with SysML, UML, or other systems modeling techniques.
· Experience in the defense, aerospace, communications, or Electronics Warfare domains.
· Experience defining system architectures and conducting technical trade studies.
· Comfortable presenting technical solutions to customers, stakeholders, and senior leadership.
· Experience supporting bid and proposal activities, including solution development and technical volume creation.
· Familiarity with Python development and scripting for engineering analysis or automation.
· Experience supporting system-level integration, verification, and validation activities.
Education
· Bachelor’s degree of Engineering in a related field.
Security Clearance
Given the nature of our software development work, it is a condition of employment that the successful candidate receive the required security clearances. Successful candidates must be eligible for Controlled Goods Regulations Program (CGRP) government clearances and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) . In addition, candidates must be able to obtain a Canadian Industrial Security Clearance to NATO SECRET level.
