Position Summary
The Field Coordinator, Technical Services (Coordinator) is responsible for the collection, validation, and assessment of data related to municipal infrastructure assets, ensuring that the County maintains a comprehensive and accurate understanding of its asset inventory. This position plays a vital role in supporting the County’s Asset Management and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) programs by carrying out on-site field inspections, documenting asset conditions, and performing detailed evaluations that contribute to long-term planning and lifecycle management. The Coordinator updates and maintains asset records within digital databases, verifies the accuracy of spatial and attribute information, and helps uphold data integrity across all asset categories, including roads, bridges, culverts, utility infrastructure, and facilities.
In addition to asset-focused responsibilities, the position provides essential support to operational teams through construction survey work and coordination. This includes collecting and processing survey data, assisting with project layout, and collaborating with external engineering contractors to ensure field information aligns with project requirements. The Coordinator also plays a key role in facilitating the County’s Traffic Count Program by deploying traffic monitoring equipment, collecting and validating vehicle count data, and preparing information that informs transportation planning and roadway design. Through these combined duties, the Coordinator, Technical Services contributes to effective decision-making, improved infrastructure management, and the overall efficiency of municipal operations.
This position requires a high level of attention to detail and accuracy in providing technical support services. Given the sensitive nature of the data and the extensive interaction with internal and external stakeholders, the Coordinator, Technical Services must adhere strictly to the principles of applicable privacy legislation including AITA and POPA, while demonstrating professionalism, tact, and diplomacy.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct regular field inspections of municipal assets - including roads, signs, culverts, drainage structures, and facilities - to document physical condition, confirm locations, and identify deficiencies.
- Perform detailed visual assessments using handheld devices, mobile data-collection applications, and digital reporting tools.
- Record and maintain comprehensive condition reports, photographs, and notes to support asset lifecycle evaluation.
- Evaluate the condition of infrastructure assets based on established rating criteria and assign appropriate condition scores.
- Update, verify, and maintain asset information within the County’s Asset Management System and GIS databases, ensuring spatial accuracy and data completeness.
- Complete routine and ad-hoc asset audits to verify existing records, reconcile discrepancies, and support data integrity efforts.
- Work collaboratively with the Technical Services Department to support the development of long-term asset replacement strategies, rehabilitation schedules, and maintenance plans.
- Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to map asset locations, analyze spatial relationships, and visually represent asset condition trends.
- Assist with construction and topographic survey tasks using GNSS/GPS and related surveying equipment.
- Support project layout, field measurements, and pre-construction assessments for internal road projects.
- Coordinate with engineering staff, utility representatives, and operational field crews to ensure survey and asset data aligns with design requirements and project needs.
- Set up, test, monitor, and retrieve automated traffic counting devices at assigned locations.
- Collect, validate, and process traffic count data for use in transportation studies, roadway design, and long-term project planning.
- Coordinate privately owned utility road crossings and water/wastewater pipeline crossings. Review and approve completed applications that adhere to engineering standards and conduct inspections of completed work.
- Identify opportunities to enhance asset data quality, survey workflows, data-collection methods, and reporting processes based on field observations and operational experience.
- Communicate with County departments and outside organizations to coordinate activities, exchange information, receive requests and resolve questions or concerns.
- Act in any role that may be assigned by the County’s Emergency Management Team, which includes participating in appropriate training and working in the Emergency Coordination Centre as required.
- Participate in Lethbridge County’s Health and Safety Program, and willing to perform duties related to Safety.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by leadership.
Education/Training/Skills Required
- Completion of a college diploma or degree in Geomatics, GIS Technology, Engineering, or related discipline.
- Familiarity with GIS, GPS technology, and asset management software is considered an asset.
- Understanding of the concepts behind data management in a relational database.
- Strong computer skills including MS Office suite and ESRI products.
- Demonstrated oral and written communication abilities.
- Exceptional organizational abilities with task prioritization, multi-tasking, use of timelines, and time management techniques.
- Professional/mature demeanour under stressful situations.
- Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills.
- Experience with AITA and POPA (formerly FOIP) legislation would be an asset.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license in good standing.
Working Conditions
- Combination of office and site/field visits as required.
- May be subjected to inclement weather when working in field.

Pay: $75,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
