Interim Vice President, Finance / Controller

Duration: 3 Months – ideally temporary to permanent

Reports: Chief Financial Officer

Location: Downtown Toronto (Hybrid)

Our client is a large, complex Canadian organization with significant operations across Canada and the United States. They are seeking an experienced Interim Vice President, Finance / Controller to provide strong financial leadership during an important period of transition.

This is an excellent opportunity for a highly accomplished CPA and technical accounting leader who can quickly establish credibility, bring calm and assured leadership to the finance function, and provide trusted support to the CFO.

The successful candidate will lead a team of approximately 35 finance professionals, ensure continuity of critical financial reporting responsibilities while keeping the team engaged, motivated and focused through change.

Key Priorities -

• Provide leadership and stability to a talented finance team during a period of organizational transition.
• Lead and oversee month-end, quarter-end and year-end close and reporting.
• Maintain a high standard of financial reporting, controls, governance and technical accounting.
• Coach, engage and develop the finance team, with a strong focus on retention, accountability and performance.
• Ensure the finance function continues to deliver meaningful value to the broader organization.
• Partner closely with the CFO, providing both technical expertise and experienced leadership.
• Provide leadership and oversight of the Treasury function, ensuring effective cash management, liquidity planning and related treasury activities.
• Support accounting associated with acquisitions, including purchase price accounting and integration-related financial reporting.
• Quickly assess priorities, identify risks and establish confidence across the finance function and senior leadership team.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be a seasoned finance executive who combines strong technical accounting expertise with mature, people-focused leadership.

They will ideally bring:

• CPA designation is required.
• Significant experience as a Controller, VP Finance or senior financial reporting leader within a large, complex organization.
• Strong IFRS technical accounting and financial reporting expertise.
• Experience working within multi-site and multi-entity environments.
• Experience with acquisition accounting and purchase price accounting.
• Experience operating across Canada and the United States would be highly valuable.
• A track record of leading sizable professional finance teams through periods of change or transition.
• The ability to quickly establish credibility and become a trusted partner to the CFO.
• A leadership style that is calm, confident, engaging and appropriately assertive.
• The maturity to balance hands-on technical leadership with broader organizational and people priorities.
