Original job description

The Financial Controller is the primary business partner leading the financial reporting, forecasting, and compliance requirements of Liebherr-Canada Ltd. The key responsibilities include full-cycle financial reporting, financial planning & analysis, tax compliance, internal controls, and capital budgets. Leveraging strong technical accounting & tax experience, this role will lead the local financial consolidation and group reporting under IFRS, while managing both local and international tax compliance. This role will report to the Finance Director and will lead a team of (3) Senior Financial Analysts to support the 8 operational divisions across Canada, covering construction equipment, mining equipment, material handling, mobile and crawler cranes, earthmoving, maritime cranes, concrete, aerospace, transportation systems, service operations, parts distribution, rentals, and major projects.

Responsibilities

Financial Reporting:

Lead the month end close and group reporting requirements under IFRS.
Approve monthly journal entries and account reconciliations.
Complete detailed review of monthly financial results for all product groups across the 8 operational divisions.
Lead the annual financial statement audit with external auditors, preparing local statutory financial statements and the group reporting package.

Financial Planning & Analysis:

Lead long term financial planning, challenging key assumptions to drive accountability.
Engage in monthly forecast reviews to identify performance gaps and recommended course of action.
Partner with Directors and key stakeholders to understand operational direction and financial impacts.
Manage financial key performance indicators (KPIs) across operational divisions and shared service centers.

Capital Budget

Lead long term capital budget, consolidating investment requirements across the company and assessing financial return and cash flow requirements.
Manage investments from start to finish, coordinating with the business on timing and approval requirements.

Tax Compliance

Lead local & international sales tax reporting requirements and audits.
Support global transfer pricing requirements and impact assessments.
Support and review annual tax provision and tax returns.

Leadership & Business Partnering:

Develop key relationships with divisional leaders, bridging the gap between financial data and operational outcomes.
Support product group managers to develop a strong understanding of daily operations and opportunities.
Lead team of (3) Senior Financial Analysts, mentoring and guiding their professional development.

Internal Controls

Lead annual internal control compliance requirements, managing over 200 controls across the company.
Partner with operational teams to improve internal control framework and process design to mitigate risk.
Complete independent review over internal control operating effectiveness and implement recommendations.

Inventory & Asset Management

Lead annual inventory and fixed asset count processes.
Review results and identify process improvements and safeguard opportunities.

System & Process Improvement

Support Business Management Systems (BMS) process mapping identifying bottlenecks and optimization across the department.
Lead process documentation and knowledge retention initiatives.
Champion use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to create process efficiencies.
Support development of Power BI dashboards to present and track KPIs and financial results.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Competencies

5-10 years of proven leadership experience and independence within a complex financial reporting environment
Strong ability to develop key relationships, communicate effectively, and lead change management
Strong experience managing people and teams
Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation and experience with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
Advanced in Microsoft Excel and ability to communicate data effectively to senior management
Experience with Power BI and SAP is preferred
Experience within the following industries is preferred: Heavy equipment, Mining, Construction equipment, Manufacturing, Industrial products
