Original job description

We're looking for a compassionate and skilled pastoral assistant to join our school team. You'll help create a caring, supportive culture where every student feels safe, valued and ready to learn. This is a chance to make a real difference to young people's lives every day.

In this role, you'll work closely with students, families, teachers and colleagues to promote positive behaviour, improve attendance and support the wellbeing of all our students. You'll help identify students who need extra care and put plans in place to help them thrive. You'll also support our wider pastoral team with important administrative tasks that keep everything running smoothly.

Key responsibilities

You Will

  • provide pastoral support to students, helping them feel included and settled in daily school life;
  • identify and monitor personal issues affecting students and work with colleagues to create support plans;
  • support high standards of behaviour and attendance across the school, working with teachers and families;
  • use our school systems to record and track pastoral, behaviour and attendance data accurately;
  • communicate regularly with parents and carers about their child's wellbeing and progress; and
  • work alongside our SENDCo, safeguarding team and senior leaders to review cases and shape our approach to student care.

What we're looking for

We're Looking For Someone Who Has

  • GCSE maths and English (grade 4 or equivalent);
  • the ability to build trusted relationships with young people, including those who find it hard to express themselves;
  • strong communication skills and the ability to work calmly under pressure;
  • confidence using data to spot patterns and create solutions that improve outcomes for students;
  • a non-judgemental, caring approach and a genuine passion for supporting all young people; and
  • a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

You'll bring patience, empathy and a positive attitude. You'll be proactive, thoughtful and ready to work collaboratively with colleagues across our school. Are you ready to help shape a school culture where every student can flourish?
