Who You Are

Have minimum of 3 - 5 years experience in a litigation legal assistant capacity or similar role
Hold a Legal Assistant Diploma/Certificate from a recognized institution, or have equivalent practical experience
Have experience supporting lawyers through the litigation process, from intake through resolution
Demonstrate strong proficiency with MS Suite applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint
Have strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and sound judgement
Can maintain strict confidentiality and safeguard sensitive client and firm information
Work efficiently under pressure and can manage changes, interruptions, competing priorities, and strict deadlines
Demonstrate strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with a proven track record of responsiveness, accuracy, and meeting deadlines
Are able to learn new systems quickly and use them effectively and efficiently
Have effective prioritization, problem-solving, and time-management skills
Are comfortable working independently while also collaborating with lawyers and team members
Are open to learning and receptive to constructive feedback
Are able to successfully pass a criminal and background record check

How You’ll Make a Difference

Our Legal Assistants play an essential role in keeping client files organized, accurate, and moving efficiently through the litigation process. Reporting to the Legal Assistant Manager, you will provide day-to-day support to assigned lawyers while coordinating with clients, opposing counsel, medical professionals, insurance adjusters, vendors, and other parties.

Manage and maintain client files in a logical and orderly manner, ensuring information is accurately documented in the firm’s file management software
Support the efficient movement of client files through each stage of the litigation process
Assist with collecting and organizing evidence and information required to advance client claims
Draft, file, and serve legal documents, including Statements of Claim, Affidavits of Records, Applications, Affidavits, Orders, and other litigation documents
Monitor and ensure filing, service, and other critical limitation deadlines are met
Communicate professionally and effectively with clients, opposing counsel, medical practitioners, insurance adjusters, vendors, and other external parties
Manage lawyer calendars and coordinate questionings, mediations, JDRs, trials, client meetings, and related logistics
Schedule Independent Medical Examinations, vocational assessments, specialist assessments, and other appointments as required
Meet with clients to swear or affirm Affidavits, execute documents, provide updates, and answer questions
Review and track trust conditions on settled files, ensuring required documentation is properly completed and provided
Work collaboratively with lawyers and team members while taking ownership of assigned tasks and responsibilities
Identify opportunities to keep files, processes, and communications organized and moving forward
Perform other duties as assigned
