Original job description

This is your chance to be a key driver of LMI's GoPxL product platform. GoPxL is the next-generation platform behind the 3D sensors that are the "eyes" of industrial automation, and we have just built its core architecture. You'll be building new features, influencing architecture, optimizing performance, and writing the algorithms and core signal processing logic that make physical optical hardware see, calibrate, and align with millimeter precision. This is an ideal time to join, as your work will directly influence the final product. If you are a developer who gets satisfaction from carefully architecting new features, optimizing algorithms and processing pipelines, and who wants to help steer a product's direction, this is the role for you.

As a Vision Software Developer II you will:

Design, implement, and optimize core 3D computer vision algorithms, point cloud processing, structured light logic, optical calibration, and sensor alignment routines in modern C++.
Take full ownership of driving algorithm features from initial mathematical concept/prototype through to production deployment on sensor hardware. Refactor math routines for peak performance, memory efficiency, and long-term maintainability.
Dive deep into real-world physical and mathematical challenges - solving optical distortion, multi-camera alignment, phase shifting, and noise filtering across Windows and embedded Linux platforms.
Collaborate directly with Product Management, Vision Specialists, and Application Engineers to break down complex customer inspection requirements into actionable technical user stories.
Validate algorithm performance against real 3D hardware targets. Write rigorous automated unit tests (GoogleTest), participate in peer code reviews, and ensure mathematical repeatability.
Step "+1" outside your core boundary. Proactively collaborate with application generalists, firmware engineers, and QA automation to ensure seamless full-stack integration.

Education and Qualifications (Must Haves)

5+ years of professional software development experience, with a heavy focus on C++ application development.
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Geomatics, Optics, Physics, or a related quantitative engineering discipline.
Strong foundation in modern C++ (C++14/17/20), STL, object-oriented design, and memory management.
Solid grasp of 3D geometry, linear algebra, matrix transformations, point cloud processing, camera projection models, and sensor calibration concepts.
Ability to write computational routines optimized for high throughput, low latency, and low memory overhead.
Experience with version control (Git), build systems (CMake), unit testing frameworks (e.g. GoogleTest), and debugging tools.
Strong problem-solving ability, clear communication, and a desire to work in an Agile team environment.

What Sets You Apart (The Desirables)

Hands-on experience with structured light, laser triangulation, time-of-flight, or line confocal sensor geometry.
Familiarity with OpenCV, PCL (Point Cloud Library), Eigen, or commercial vision libraries (Halcon, MIL).
Experience prototyping algorithms in Python, MATLAB, or C# before porting to production C++.
Interest or experience in using AI tools (e.g. Claude, Gemini, Copilot) as a force multiplier - for example, optimizing personal workflows or creating AI agent skills for the team - while still maintaining production-grade output.

Salary Range: $93,000 CAD to $136,000 CAD + Eligibility for Profit Sharing Program Participation (pending successful completion of probationary period and based on business performance)

Perks and Benefits

Health Benefits: Full health care coverage (with 100% paid premiums) including dental, vision, and drugs for you and your family.
Work-Life Balance: We support a healthy balance with hybrid work arrangements, flextime, and competitive paid time off.
Growth & Development: An annual Education Support Program for training and professional growth, plus annual performance reviews.
Enjoy free snacks and drinks, team-building events, tenure awards, and our official "May the 4th" (Star Wars Day) company holiday!
Access to an on-site fitness facility, tennis/basketball court, and company-wide wellness initiatives
This is a hybrid position based out of our Burnaby, BC headquarters. To support our collaborative model, preference will be given to local candidates that are able to work in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Please note that financial relocation assistance and immigration sponsorship are not available for this position
We are recognized as a “Great Place to Work” for 10 consecutive years!

Our Recruitment Process

We believe in a transparent and collaborative hiring journey. Our goal is to ensure you are as excited about us as we are about you. Below is the typical path (can vary by position):

Talent Discovery (Human Resources): An initial screening call focused on your professional background, language and communication proficiency, and cultural alignment with the team as well as overview of role and company.

Role Fit (Hiring Manager): A deep dive into your experience, knowledge and skills as well as sharing of role expectations and team initiatives.

Team Fit (Peers and Colleagues): An opportunity to meet with potential team members and/or cross-functional peers to discuss your experience/background and their experience and work at LMI.

Assessment: Some roles may entail a technical assessment to further discover your technical capabilities and skills.
