About the Role
Reporting to the Production Training Excellence Lead, the Shift Trainer strengthens shift capability for safe, stable, and reliable LNG plant operations. With Phase 1 beyond commissioning, the role now focuses on sustaining competence, reinforcing operating discipline, supporting targeted refresher training, and converting operational learning into practical improvements for shift crews.

You will use your expertise to:
- Deliver technical learning interventions that address defined shift performance needs in LNG operations.
- Keep field, panel, and shift leadership training programs current with approved procedures and operating experience.
- Support technician progression by assessing readiness, documenting gaps, and recommending clear closure actions to line supervision.
- Reinforce operating discipline through procedure use, safe work practices, control-of-work expectations, and strong shift handover behaviors.
- Convert abnormal situations and plant events into scenario-based practice that strengthens operator response.
- Use fit-for-purpose planning, stakeholder engagement, and change management to support training delivery without unnecessary disruption to production work.
Shift Training Delivery & Coaching
- Deliver classroom, field, simulator, and on-shift coaching for Production Technicians and Panel Technicians.
- Facilitate refresher sessions focused on normal operation, transient conditions, and emergency response interfaces.
- Coordinate training with shift schedules to support learning while minimizing impact on safe and reliable production.
- Coach operators on situational awareness, communication, shift handover, and field verification practices.
- Help Production Team Leads and Production Supervisors select the right training response when assurance results indicate shift performance gaps.
Competence Assurance & Records Management
- Track training completion, competence assessment status, progression milestones, refresher validity, and required recertification.
- Maintain accurate learning records (CLMS/UKG) and provide timely reporting on progress, gaps, overdue requirements, and training effectiveness.
- Conduct or support field and panel competence assessments in line with approved capability requirements.
- Assign gap-closure options such as supervised practice, reassessment, or targeted refresher training based on the assessed need.
- Verify that personnel assigned to designated operational duties have the required training and assessment status.
Support Safe and Reliable Plant Operations
- Provide practical training support for operational risk controls, safe isolations, permit-to-work interfaces, critical task execution, field rounds, and alarm or abnormal situation response.
- Support shift teams in applying approved operating procedures, standing instructions, temporary operating instructions, and management of change requirements.
- Capture lessons from stabilization, trips, near misses, and deviations so they inform future refresher priorities.
- Work with Operations, HSSE, Maintenance, Engineering, and Asset teams to ensure training reflects current plant conditions and reliable operating requirements.
- Act as a credible field and panel coach who reinforces LNG Canada values, safe behaviors, and disciplined execution.
- Provide operational cover for Production team Lead where necessary
Training Content, Systems & Continuous Improvement
- Develop, maintain, and update unit awareness training, capability assessment packs, refresher content, simulator scenarios, field coaching guides, and assessment tools.
- Validate training material against current procedures, operating limits, and equipment configuration before use.
- Analyze training metrics and assessment outcomes to identify trends that require program changes.
- Support digital learning, learning management system updates, training dashboards, and knowledge management practices.
- Promote consistent learning standards across shift crews to reduce variation and strengthen reliable operating performance.
Operational Learning & Culture
- Design learning interventions from incident learnings, audit findings, and field observations where a training response is required.
- Diagnose whether a performance issue is driven by knowledge, skill, procedure clarity, practice opportunity, or behavioral reinforcement.
- Promote a learning culture where operators are encouraged to ask questions, share experience, and demonstrate competence through Know It, Own It, Show It behaviors.
- Provide structured feedback to the Production Training Excellence Lead on emerging training risks, resource constraints, and capability priorities.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of safe, compliant, and reliable operations.
To be successful, you will have:
- A minimum of 10 years of relevant LNG, oil and gas, petrochemical, or complex process plant operations experience, including field and/or panel operating exposure.
- Demonstrated experience training, coaching, mentoring, and assessing frontline operations personnel in a shift-based barrier management environment.
- Strong understanding of LNG plant systems, safe operating envelopes, control-of-work interfaces, process safety barriers, and reliable operations practices.
- Ability to develop and deliver fit-for-purpose learning material, refresher training, practical assessments, and scenario-based coaching for adult learners.
- Strong facilitation, technical writing, communication, stakeholder management, and performance feedback skills.
- Experience using learning records, assurance data, and performance trends to manage compliance and improve training quality.
This role requires that you:
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada (i.e., by way of Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or valid work permit)

- Are willing to comply with LNGC’s drug-free and harassment-free work environment and comply with all safety policies and procedures.
- Undergo a pre-placement medical assessment of your fitness for duty, and Pre-Site Access testing for alcohol and specified drugs.
- Know that this role may be expected to be on call on a rotational basis during the year and/or during site specific situations.
- Valid Driver’s license
- Ability to climb staircases
- 12 hour shift role – may need some flexibility in schedule as per needs of business
