JOB PURPOSE

The Commercial Trainer is responsible for designing, implementing, and continuously improving Pharmacosmos Canada’s commercial training strategy. The role ensures the field organization has the product knowledge, disease-state expertise, customer engagement skills, and commercial capabilities required to execute brand priorities and deliver high-quality customer experiences.

The Commercial Trainer will also serve as the organizational lead for Key Account Management capability development, ensuring all commercial team members are equipped to execute strategic account plans, navigate complex healthcare systems, and drive long-term customer partnerships.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Sales & Commercial Excellence, and working in close partnership with Regional Business Managers (RBMs), Marketing, Medical Affairs, Human Resources (HR), and other cross-functional partners, the role connects brand strategy with field execution through training needs assessment, curriculum and workshop development, onboarding, certification, and field coaching.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Commercial Training Strategy & Planning

Develop and execute annual and quarterly commercial training plans aligned with brand strategy, business priorities and organizational needs.
Collaborate with sales leadership and an external partner (if needed) to establish a Key Account Manager Framework, associated competencies, appropriate proficiency expectations and assessment methods and incorporate into relevant learning activities.
Translate brand strategy into practical learning objectives, training curricula, workshops, tools, and reinforcement plans for the Key Account Managers.
Conduct ongoing training needs assessments using field observations, performance trends, learner assessments, and input from RBMs and cross-functional partners.
Establish metrics to evaluate learning participation, knowledge acquisition, capability application, learner confidence, and training effectiveness.
Maintain accurate training records, certification status, learning documentation, and required reporting.
Promote a culture of continuous learning, coaching, accountability, and commercial excellence.
Maintain the commercial training content in the Learning Management System (LMS), in partnership with HR.

Product Disease Knowledge (PDK) Training

Develop learning pathways that build product, disease-state, competitive landscape, and healthcare environment and Key Account Management competencies.
Partner with Medical Affairs and Marketing to ensure training content is scientifically accurate, strategically aligned, current, and approved through appropriate review processes.
Build and maintain training materials, facilitator guides, learner resources, assessments, and certification requirements.
Ensure field teams can confidently and compliantly apply product and disease-state knowledge in customer interactions.
Stay up to date with Global training modules and incorporate them into the Canadian training plan as needed.
Lead the commercial onboarding program for new hires, developing and delivering training on PDK, customer engagement, and key KAM competencies, while partnering with hiring managers, HR, and cross-functional stakeholders to support the broader onboarding experience.
Design and facilitate engaging national, regional, virtual, and in-person learning experiences using adult learning principles, case studies, role plays, simulations, practice sessions, peer learning, and real-world account scenarios for new and tenured employees.
Evaluate program effectiveness and continuously improve content, delivery methods, and learner experience.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Business, Education, Healthcare, or a related field.
Certification or formal development in adult learning, instructional design, facilitation, coaching, or professional education is an asset.

Experience

Minimum 5 years of progressive pharmaceutical commercial experience including a minimum of two (2) years in field sales (Key Account Management experience preferred).
Demonstrated experience designing and delivering product, disease-state, selling skills, or commercial capability training.
Experience facilitating workshops and providing field-based coaching to customer-facing teams.
Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence stakeholders without direct authority.
Experience in specialty products in therapeutic areas such as Women’s Health, Haematology, Gastroenterology, Oncology or Nephrology an asset.

Skills / Competencies:

Strong facilitation, presentation, communication, and coaching skills.
Working knowledge of adult learning principles, instructional design, blended learning, and assessment methodologies.
Strong pharmaceutical business acumen and ability to translate brand strategy into field-ready learning solutions.
Ability to understand and teach clinical evidence, disease states, product differentiation, and customer engagement approaches.
Knowledge of KAM principles, including account planning, stakeholder mapping, opportunity assessment, healthcare system navigation, and cross-functional collaboration.
Strong project management, planning, organization, and prioritization skills.
Ability to build trusted relationships with field teams, RBMs, and cross-functional partners.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, virtual learning tools, and learning management systems.

Other Requirements:

Travel required: approximately 20%, including field visits, regional meetings, and national training events.
Languages: English required. Bilingual preferred.

The anticipated base salary range for this role is $120,000 to $155,000. Actual compensation offered will be determined based on factors such as relevant experience, skills, qualifications, education, demonstrated competencies, internal equity considerations, and overall alignment with the role's requirements.
