Vacancy: This posting is for a currently open position.
Salary Range: $130,000 – $150,000 base salary
COMPANY PROFILE
Our client is a fast-growing Canadian manufacturer of custom conveyor systems, material handling solutions, and precision metal products that has doubled their business in the past 2 years. They credit this success in large part to talented professionals who make up their world-class manufacturing team. They are committed to sustaining this period of growth, investing in the people, equipment, process improvements, and technology the business needs to scale effectively.
As the company enters its next phase of growth, it is establishing a new Finance & Human Resources Leader position. The Finance function has been overseen by the President & CEO and is now being transitioned to a dedicated leader who will assume full ownership of Finance, join the senior leadership team, and build on a strong existing foundation. With a capable team already managing the day-to-day finance and administrative activities, the focus will be on providing strategic leadership, strengthening the function, and supporting the company’s continued growth.
JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the General Manager, the Finance & Human Resources Leader will lead the Finance function while providing oversight of Human Resources. This is a key leadership role responsible for financial reporting, planning, controls, and performance analysis, with a strong focus on manufacturing operations. The successful candidate will bring financial insight to business decisions, strengthen processes and reporting, and serve as a trusted partner to the General Manager and leadership team. The role also provides HR direction and oversight, supported by internal resources and external partners as needed- the individual does not need to be an HR specialist.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Finance & Financial Leadership
- Lead the Finance function, overseeing financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, working capital, and overall financial performance.
- Prepare and communicate financial statements, management reporting, and analysis, providing actionable insights to the President & CEO and leadership team.
- Oversee core financial operations, including AR, AP, payroll, banking, tax, audit, insurance and compliance, while maintaining strong financial controls and processes.
- Provide financial oversight for capital expenditures and key business decisions, assessing risks, opportunities, and financial impact.
Manufacturing Finance
- Develop a strong understanding of the company’s engineer-to-order manufacturing model and its key financial drivers.
- Provide visibility into job costing, WIP, project margins and profitability, analyzing estimated versus actual performance across labour, materials and overhead.
- Establish meaningful financial and operational KPIs and partner with Estimating, Sales, Engineering and Operations to translate operational performance into actionable financial insights.
- Identify opportunities to improve margins, profitability, efficiency and working-capital management.
Human Resources
- Provide leadership and oversight of the Human Resources function, ensuring policies and practices support business objectives, company culture and employment legislation.
- Partner with managers on employee relations, performance management, recruitment, onboarding, retention, succession planning, compensation and benefits.
Leadership & Continuous Improvement
- Serve as a trusted business partner to the President & CEO and an active member of the leadership team, contributing to strategic and organizational priorities.
- Strengthen financial and HR systems, processes and reporting while identifying opportunities to automate repetitive work and leverage technology and AI to improve efficiency and decision-making.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 7 years of progressively senior experience in finance and accounting, ideally within a manufacturing environment; CPA designation is an asset.
- Background in custom manufacturing, engineer-to-order, project-based, or similarly complex production settings.
- Strong understanding of cost accounting, WIP, gross margin analysis, project profitability, and budget-to-actual performance.
- Proven experience managing financial planning, forecasting, reporting, P&L oversight and cash flow management.
- Strong knowledge of accounting practices, financial controls and governance, with experience improving financial processes and infrastructure.
- Previous exposure to HR leadership or functional oversight, with an understanding of employee practices, policies and employment compliance.
- Business-oriented and analytical, with the ability to connect financial and operational data to sound, practical business decisions.
- Confident communicator and approachable leader who can build strong relationships across the organization, from senior leadership to front-line employees.
- Proactive, hands-on, and continuous improvement-focused, with an openness to using technology, automation, and AI to enhance business efficiency.
