Sr. Key Account Manager – CPG / Major Retail

Greater Toronto Area | Consumer Packaged Goods

Base Salary: $135,000–$145,000, dependent on experience, plus strong bonus potential

We are partnering with a growing and entrepreneurial organization within the CPG industry that has established a strong presence in the Canadian market and continues to deliver against ambitious growth objectives.

This is an excellent opportunity for an up-and-coming CPG sales professional who has gained experience working with Loblaw or Walmart and is ready to take the next step into greater account ownership, customer responsibility and commercial leadership. We are also interested in current Key Account Managers with Loblaw or Walmart experience who are open to opportunities within the targeted salary range.

Do you have a strong foundation in account management but want an opportunity to accelerate your career by thinking and operating more like a GM? This role provides the visibility and information needed to understand and manage a detailed customer P&L, along with the autonomy and accountability to build plans, evaluate opportunities and make informed business decisions. It is an opportunity to own more of the business, influence decisions and directly impact commercial results.

The Opportunity

Working directly on the Loblaw business, you will take significant ownership of this important customer and help develop and execute strategies that drive sales, profitability and sustainable growth.

This is much more than simply managing the day-to-day account. You will be expected to think and operate like a GM of the business, with visibility into a detailed customer P&L and the autonomy to assess opportunities, build plans and make sound commercial decisions.

Key responsibilities will include:

Developing and executing the Loblaw customer and account strategy
Building strong relationships with key Loblaw stakeholders
Managing sales performance and taking meaningful P&L ownership
Leading annual planning, forecasting and account objectives
Managing promotional programs and trade investment
Identifying opportunities to grow sales, distribution and market share
Developing customer-specific merchandising and promotional programs
Preparing and leading customer business reviews and scorecards
Monitoring sales, financial and customer KPIs and recommending actions
Utilizing syndicated and customer-specific data to develop fact-based selling presentations
Working cross-functionally with Marketing, Sales Planning, Supply Chain and eCommerce
Identifying new opportunities and developing plans to continue growing the business
Bringing an entrepreneurial mindset, commercial rigour and ownership mentality to the account

What We're Looking For

We are particularly interested in candidates with:

Approximately 3–5 years of progressive CPG sales/account management experience
Direct experience supporting or calling on Loblaw strongly preferred
Strong Walmart experience will also be considered
A solid understanding of the Canadian grocery/mass retail environment
Experience with forecasting, promotions, trade spend and customer planning
Strong analytical and presentation capabilities
The ability to turn data and insights into compelling customer recommendations
A track record of delivering against sales objectives
Strong communication, organizational and relationship-building skills
A hands-on, collaborative and entrepreneurial approach
The ambition and capability to take on significantly greater account responsibility
