Standard Job Description

The Software Engineer role is a highly skilled individual contributor who brings a wide range of technical capabilities to Lockheed Martin. In this role, the software engineer will be embedded in an existing agile development team who can support the entire software development cycle from planning, development, to delivery; this includes backlog grooming and definition, test driven development, as well as continuous integration and deployment. The successful candidate will support Lockheed Martins core product, Combat Management Systems (CMS) 330, by developing the simulation engine used to create scenarios and train users for its use in operational settings.

In this role, the Software Engineer Plans, conducts, and coordinates software development activities. Applies the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the development life cycle. Applies knowledge of computer hardware and software, subject matter to be programmed in business/mission applications, information processing techniques used, and information gathered from system users to develop software. Corrects program errors, prepares operating instructions, compiles documentation of program development, and analyzes system capabilities to resolve questions of program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques, and controls. Ensures software standards are met.

The role requires a minimum of two days per week in the office to collaborate with stakeholders, agile teams, and build relationships with experts across other teams. The software engineer will also take on stretch assignments that extend our business growth across multiple departments, such as supporting Internal Research and Development, establishing best‑practices and guidelines for all users, and contributing to process and tooling improvements in supporting enterprise excellence.
