Standard Job Description

This co-op position is to support the Human Factors Engineering (HFE) team within the River Class Destroyer (RCD) Program. The candidate will be joining a multi-disciplined team environment.

The Responsibilities Would Include

Support in managing requirements in Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System (DOORS)
Planning and managing team tasks in JIRA
Managing team information in Confluence
Generating reports and metrics on tasks and deliverables
Support the Hardware (HW) team in clarifying guidelines and giving recommendations on the design of their equipment
Support the Software (SW) team in clarifying guidelines and giving recommendations on the design of their Human Machine Interfaces (HMI)
Support the ship integration team in clarifying guidelines and giving recommendations on the layout of the HFE impacted compartments
Support HFE Workshops with the customer by preparing workshop material, attending workshops and analyzing workshop findings
Review design documents from vendors
Support technical reviews and regular team status meetings
Support engineering planning and reporting status
Generate meeting minutes for HFE meetings (design meetings, review meetings or team status meeting)
Support customer interactions while ensuring customer involvement and overall satisfaction.

Basic Qualifications

Pursuing a degree in System Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field
Working knowledge of Microsoft (MS) Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio
Strong communication and writing skills
Aptitude for solving challenging problems in a team environment
Must be detail oriented, highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks
Eligible for North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Secret clearance in a timely manner
Candidate must be available for four (4) months, starting January 2027

Desired Skills

Experience with Jira/Confluence would be an asset
Experience with HFE Standards (i.e. MIL-STD-1472G) would be an asset
Experience with HW and/or SW HMI design would be an asset
Active security clearance would be an asset

Support the Human Factors Engineering team by managing requirements in DOORS and tracking tasks via Jira and Confluence. Provide design recommendations for hardware, software HMI, and ship compartment layouts while supporting customer workshops and technical reviews.

Requirements

Candidates must be pursuing a degree in Systems, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering and possess strong communication skills and proficiency in MS Office. Eligibility for NATO Secret clearance and availability for a four-month term starting January 2027 are required.
