Original job description

You will be part of a project team responsible for delivering projects within budget, to exacting standards and to project timescales during the conceptual, detailed design and construction phases. The role will require a good understanding of engineering principles and practical application of British Standard and Eurocode Design. The role will principally require supervision and management of subcontractors; and logging and sampling of geotechnical and geoenvironmental site investigations across the UK. You will also see projects through ground model development at desk study stage, site investigation, ground model refinement and geotechnical reporting.

Key Responsibilities And Accountabilities

Analyse client’s briefs and agree deliverable requirements. Liaise where necessary with clients to ensure satisfactory progress and quality.
Providing geotechnical engineering support for the delivery of a portfolio of projects, ensuring adherence to quality, time and budget, as well as relevant standards and client specifications.
Preparation of schedule of activities, specifications, scheme budgets, scheme fees, target costs, and project programmes.
Consult with relevant manager for payment applications to be submitted to clients.
Undertake feasibility, desk study and site reconnaissance.
Arrange and supervise sub-contractors and ensure their work is completed in a safe manner, to time and budget.
Supervising site works across the U.K. including out of hours and weekend working, as necessary.
Logging and sampling of soils to British standards.
Preparation and review of factual and interpretive ground investigation reports.
Support delivery of foundation designs to relevant U.K. and client standards
Accept ownership of work to be done (i.e. being required to undertake specific actions within an agreed job boundary, the execution of a delegated task, activity or process).
Keeping all records and supporting documentation necessary to substantiate personal performance.
Submit monthly progress reports to your manager.
Keep abreast of all legislation, particularly health and safety and CDM.
Assess engineering documentation, feasibility and compliance with client requirements and support the preparation of accurate budgets for new projects.
You may also have to review method statements and risk assessments, liaise with construction and site management and mentor less experienced engineers.

Qualifications

Qualifications and experience:

Bachelor’s or master’s Degree in civil engineering, geology, geotechnical engineering or similar.
Minimum 2 years’ experience of ground investigation.
Ideally Member of Professional Institution.
Hold a valid UK Driving Licence (or licence acceptable to our insurers).

Experience

Good knowledge of relevant industry specific legislation.
Ability to understand and plan for conflicting requirements and meet challenging deadlines.
Ability to interrelate own discipline areas with outputs from other engineering and non-engineering disciplines to present overall suitable solutions mitigating risk in proposed solutions.
Able to produce reports and design deliverables that are compliant with standards, specifications and accurately considering all available relevant information and knowledge.

Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication and influencing skills.
Excellent Report writing skills.
Good Literacy skills.
Highly Numerate.
Accurate in all written and numeracy skills.
Attention to detail.
