FP&A & Corporate Finance Manager

Financial Planning & Operations

About Luminary People Collective

Luminary People Collective is a boutique recruitment and People advisory firm connecting great people with great opportunities. We partner with ambitious businesses to find exceptional talent, build strong teams and create meaningful connections that last.

We are partnering with an established, growing business in the consumer products and retail sector to recruit an experienced FP&A & Corporate Finance Manager.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a CPA-designated finance professional who combines strong technical accounting expertise with commercial thinking, operational understanding and a proactive approach to leadership.

This is a hands-on management role within a growing, entrepreneurial business. It is an opportunity for someone who enjoys taking ownership of the numbers, understanding what drives business performance and building the financial processes that support sustainable growth.

You will oversee financial reporting, planning and analysis, cash flow forecasting and day-to-day finance operations while managing and developing a direct report.

You will also contribute to financial infrastructure and reporting requirements associated with the organization's expansion into international markets.

We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience working with inventory-based businesses and understand how product costing, inventory movements, landed costs and operational decisions flow through the financial statements.

This role requires someone who can move comfortably between the details of accounting and the bigger picture of business performance. You are not simply reporting the numbers. You are identifying trends, anticipating challenges and recommending what should happen next.

What You'll Be Responsible For

Financial Reporting & Operational Accounting

  • Take ownership of the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate, timely and complete financial reporting.
  • Oversee balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, inventory accounting and monthly financial statements.
  • Understand and manage the accounting implications of inventory movements, product costing, landed costs, duties and inventory-related transactions.
  • Ensure financial reporting accurately reflects business operations, including cost of goods sold and inventory valuation.
  • Oversee transactional finance activities, including accounts payable, reconciliations and payment processing, through your direct report.
  • Strengthen financial controls, reporting processes and month-end efficiencies.
  • Support the external audit process and compliance requirements.

Financial Planning, Analysis & Cash Flow

  • Own and develop rolling financial forecasts, including short- and long-term cash flow forecasting.
  • Build and maintain cash flow models that provide visibility into liquidity requirements, working capital and future business needs.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting and monthly variance analysis, explaining not only what has changed but why it matters.
  • Identify trends, risks and opportunities across sales channels, inventory, margins and operating expenses.
  • Develop financial models and business cases to support investment, operational and growth decisions.
  • Prepare meaningful monthly financial reporting packages for leadership, with clear analysis and actionable recommendations.
  • Partner with business leaders to improve financial visibility and support more informed decisions.

Corporate Finance & Business Growth

  • Support the development of financial reporting structures, processes and controls as the organization expands internationally.
  • Contribute to intercompany accounting, cross-border transactions and transfer pricing processes in partnership with external advisors.
  • Support foreign exchange analysis, cash management and financial governance.
  • Help build scalable financial systems and processes to support a growing business.
  • Provide financial insight into strategic opportunities, operational investments and business expansion.

People Leadership & Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Manage, coach and develop a Finance Associate, ensuring clear accountability and strong execution of day-to-day finance activities.
  • Take a hands-on approach to resolving issues while empowering your direct report to grow.
  • Partner with operational and departmental leaders to understand business performance and improve financial decision-making.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance reporting, automate processes and improve the use of NetSuite.
  • Act as a trusted financial partner to senior leadership, bringing solutions and recommendations rather than simply highlighting problems.
What You Must Bring

To be considered for this opportunity, candidates must demonstrate the following:

  • CPA designation: A completed Canadian CPA designation or recognized equivalent, supported by strong technical accounting knowledge.
  • Relevant finance experience: A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, with demonstrated ownership of financial reporting and month-end close processes.
  • Inventory and product costing knowledge: Practical experience with, or strong technical exposure to, inventory accounting, cost of goods sold, inventory valuation and product costing in a retail, wholesale, manufacturing or other inventory-based environment.
  • Financial planning and cash flow: Demonstrated experience building and maintaining financial forecasts, budgets, financial models and cash flow projections. You must be comfortable developing models independently, not simply updating existing reports.
  • People leadership: Previous experience supervising, coaching or managing junior finance team members, with the ability to delegate effectively and maintain accountability.
  • Commercial and analytical thinking: The ability to interpret financial results, identify trends, challenge assumptions and translate numbers into recommendations that support business decisions.
  • Strong systems capability: Advanced Excel skills and experience working with NetSuite or a comparable ERP system.
  • Ownership and initiative: A demonstrated track record of independently solving problems, improving processes, learning new systems and proactively identifying what needs to be done.
Experience That Would Set You Apart
  • Experience in retail, apparel, consumer products, wholesale or manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of landed costs, duties, outsourced manufacturing, work orders and inventory costing processes.
  • Experience with Canadian and US intercompany accounting, transfer pricing or cross-border financial reporting.
  • Direct experience with NetSuite, including process improvement or reporting optimization.
  • Experience supporting business growth, new market expansion or the development of financial infrastructure.
  • A background in public accounting combined with exposure to inventory-based or operationally complex businesses.
How You Work

You are someone who takes ownership. You do not need to be told what to investigate, where to find an answer or when to raise a concern.

You are naturally curious about how a business operates and understand that accurate financial reporting is only the starting point. You want to know what is driving margins, how inventory affects

cash flow, where risks are emerging and how finance can help the organization make better decisions.

You bring strong accounting discipline but are equally comfortable thinking strategically. You enjoy building models, digging into reconciliations, improving processes and contributing ideas.

You are resourceful, adaptable and willing to learn. When faced with something unfamiliar, you take the initiative to investigate, ask thoughtful questions and work toward a solution.

You are also a supportive people leader who takes pride in developing others, building accountability and creating an effective finance function.

Most importantly, you enjoy working in a growing business where you can have a direct impact and where success requires both strategic thinking and a willingness to roll up your sleeves.

Why Consider This Opportunity?
  • Broad ownership: Lead key areas of accounting, financial planning, cash flow and operational reporting.
  • Meaningful impact: Help build the financial processes and reporting infrastructure that support continued business growth.
  • Leadership opportunity: Manage and develop a direct report while working closely with senior leadership.
  • Business exposure: Gain visibility across multiple business functions, operating channels and strategic initiatives.
  • Career development: Take on increasing responsibility as the organization grows and the finance function evolves.
  • Collaborative environment: Join an entrepreneurial team that values initiative, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Benefits: A comprehensive health and dental benefits plan.
Interested?

If you are a CPA who enjoys combining operational accounting expertise with commercial financial leadership, we would welcome a conversation.

Please note: This opportunity requires strong accounting fundamentals, relevant inventory or product costing knowledge, hands-on financial forecasting capability and previous people leadership experience. Candidates whose experience is focused exclusively on FP&A without operational accounting exposure may not be aligned with the requirements of this role.

Equity, Inclusion & Accessibility

Luminary People Collective is committed to an inclusive and equitable recruitment experience. If you require accommodation at any stage of the recruitment process, we encourage you to let us know.
