Original job description

At Lyft, our purpose is to serve and connect. We aim to achieve this by cultivating a work environment where all team members belong and have the opportunity to thrive.

Lyft connects people to transportation to change the way we live and get around our communities. We are looking for product managers who bring exceptional creative, strategic, and analytical skills to drive forward a best in class product. Product management at Lyft leads the integration of engineering, data science, and design to achieve the company's vision for reinventing transportation. We are looking for entrepreneurial and passionate Product Managers to innovate and execute across a rapidly growing, fast paced company and industry.

Pricing is the primary economic engine of Lyft's marketplace - a high-precision, real-time system that processes millions of fare calculations per hour, balancing rider affordability, driver earnings, and Lyft's sustainable growth. The Pricing team sits at the intersection of the marketplace, mediating between rider demand and driver supply, and is a core pillar of the Rider Organization.

The Base Pricing Team owns the systems that set the base price of a Lyft ride for every ride type, region, and ride intent. Behind these base prices is a machine-learning and optimization stack that predicts how the Lyft marketplace responds to price, translates the cost of serving a ride into a price, and recommends price changes across hundreds of markets every week. Base prices are the foundation of every fare, and they set the reference point that dynamic pricing and rider discounts build on.

The team serves two sets of customers: riders, who should see prices that are fair, competitive, and matched to what they value; and the analysts and market managers who use our models and tools to set pricing strategy.

Responsibilities:

As the Staff Product Manager for Base Pricing, you will own the vision and roadmap for how Lyft sets base prices, and define the success metrics that measure it. That includes:

Determining the optimal granularity at which Lyft sets base prices (e.g., by time, location, and type of trip)
Improving how our base price optimization engine works with downstream dynamic pricing systems to better respond to real-time market conditions
Re-evaluating how costs to fulfill a ride impact prices
Jointly optimizing prices across ride types, so that standard, alternative modes, and scheduled rides are priced as one portfolio
Making our impact estimation models accurate and trusted by market management teams
Evolving base pricing to function in a hybrid network with autonomous vehicles
Work closely with cross-functional stakeholders (engineers, scientists, analysts), and partner teams (Driver Earnings, Verticals, Market Management) to align on a shared vision, define requirements, and prioritize inbound requests.
Communicate roadmaps, experiment results, and pricing decisions clearly to audiences from partner teams up to Lyft's executive team.

Experience:

5+ years of product management or relevant experience, with significant time spent on algorithmic, data-driven, pricing, or marketplace products
A deep technical understanding of microeconomics, and ideally a background in Operations Research, Econometrics, Machine Learning, or algorithmic systems
Experience owning pricing, revenue management, or other economic levers with direct P&L impact; experience with price optimization, elasticity modeling, or cost modeling is a strong plus
Experience running A/B tests and market-level experiments, using statistical and causal inference techniques to evaluate results, and developing post-launch testing strategies
Experience with data, including querying, aggregation, analysis, and visualization; comfortable working directly in SQL and with data science partners on model design
Ability to define and analyze metrics that inform the success of products, and excellent judgment about the dynamics of a product ecosystem
Natural ability to make things happen around you; you manage ambiguity, complexity, and interdependencies across many teams in an organized and structured way
Strong communication skills and intuition for communication strategy at every level - within teams, within the company, and with executives
Passion for Lyft and what we are trying to achieve in sustainable urban transportation

Benefits:

Extended health and dental coverage options, along with life insurance and disability benefits
Mental health benefits
Family building benefits
Child care and pet benefits
Access to a Lyft funded Health Care Savings Account
RRSP plan with company match to help save for your future
In addition to provincial observed holidays, salaried team members are covered under Lyft's flexible paid time off policy. The policy allows team members to take off as much time as they need (with manager approval). Hourly team members get 15 days paid time off, with an additional day for each year of service
Lyft is proud to support new parents with 18 weeks of paid time off, designed as a top-up plan to complement provincial programs. Biological, adoptive, and foster parents are all eligible.
Subsidized commuter benefits and Lyft ride credits

Lyft is committed to creating an inclusive workforce that fosters belonging. Lyft believes that every person has a right to equal employment opportunities without discrimination because of race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, citizenship, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, marital status, family status, disability, pardoned record of offences, or any other basis protected by applicable law or by Company policy. Lyft also strives for a healthy and safe workplace and strictly prohibits harassment of any kind. Accommodation for persons with disabilities will be provided upon request in accordance with applicable law during the application and hiring process. Please contact your recruiter if you wish to make such a request.

Lyft highly values having employees working in-office to foster a collaborative work environment and company culture. This role will be in-office on a hybrid schedule - Team Members will be expected to work in the office at least 3 days per week, including on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Lyft considers working in the office at least 3 days per week to be an essential function of this hybrid role. Your recruiter can share more information about the various in-office perks Lyft offers. Additionally, hybrid roles have the flexibility to work from anywhere for up to 4 weeks per year. #Hybrid

The expected base pay range for this position in the Toronto area is CAD $172,000 - CAD $215,000, not inclusive of potential equity offering, bonus or benefits. Salary ranges are dependent on a variety of factors, including qualifications, experience and geographic location. Your recruiter can share more information about the salary range specific to your working location and other factors during the hiring process.

Lyft may use artificial intelligence to screen applicants, however, Lyft employees make the ultimate selection and hiring decisions.
