Original job description
The client is looking for two fire prevention advisors attached to the Technical Expertise Department. The role is operational: the person executes, under the supervision of a senior resource, rather than defining strategy. Day-to-day work covers compliance review of fire safety plans, the register of fire safety and emergency measures plans, planning evacuation drills with operations and security teams, and writing opinions and inspection reports. Command of the legal and normative framework (NBC, NFC, municipal by-laws, Quebec Fire Safety Act) underpins the expected advisory role. The client specifies a junior-to-intermediate profile with 2 to 5 years of experience at most, consistent with an execution role under supervision.
Candidate sought: a fire prevention technician holding a DEC or AEC in the field, with 2 to 5 years of practice in inspections, fire safety plans, emergency measures plans or evacuation drills. The person knows the NBC, the NFC and the Fire Safety Act, writes clearly in French and works in support of a senior resource.
Key Requirements:
- Knowledge of the legal, regulatory and normative fire safety
framework (NBC, NFC, municipal by-laws, Fire Safety Act)
- Hands-on experience with the mandate's activities
(inspections, fire safety plans, emergency plans, evacuation drills, opinions
and reports)
- Autonomy and ability to provide advisory services in their
field, in an execution role
- Verbal and written communication in French
- Good knowledge of English
- Proficiency in the Office suite
- Initiative, autonomy, leadership, emotional intelligence,
sense of responsibility, teamwork
Requirements
Profiles to Exclude:
- Profile without a DEC or AEC in fire prevention, and without
demonstrated equivalent training on the resume.
- Profile with no fire prevention work experience on the
resume, or less than 2 years.
- Profile with more than 5 years of fire prevention experience
(cap set by the client).
- Emergency response firefighter whose resume shows no
prevention activity (inspection, fire safety plans, awareness, drills).
- Occupational health and safety profile without demonstrated
fire prevention specialization or knowledge of the NBC or NFC.
- Corporate security or guarding profile without fire
prevention training.
