POSITION TITLE: Shop Technician
LOCATION: Thompson, MB
MacLean Engineering is seeking a skilled and experienced Shop Technician to join our growing team in Thompson, MB. The shop technician is responsible for providing competent and efficient support to the shop. He or she must be able to perform work safely, meet operational needs, and follow all safety procedures. The technician must be able to conduct tests, troubleshoot issues, replace defective equipment, and perform other tasks as needed. He or she is also responsible for training new employees and mentoring our apprentices.
About the Position:
The workshop technician is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing MacLean equipment in the workshop. They ensure the proper functioning of machines by applying their technical knowledge and adhering to the company’s quality and safety standards. They work collaboratively with internal teams to ensure efficient service and contribute to the continuous improvement of operations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Demonstrate working competence reading mechanical and electrical blueprints, hydraulic assembly drawings, electrical wiring harness and control system schematics
- Demonstrate root-cause problem solving to identify and perform equipment repairs
- Coach and mentor apprentices, technicians and other peers on technical procedures and applications
- Apply knowledge of machines and machine systems to perform troubleshooting of malfunctioning components and systems
- Able to perform inspection and reports on out mobile equipment
- Follow written work instructions, repair manuals, engineering drawings
- Provide input to Supervisor and team for continuous improvements
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum High School Diploma or Certificate of Completion
- Vocational Diploma in Heavy Equipment Mechanics, Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanics, or Electromechanics
- Very strong mechanical/electrical aptitude combine with hands-on test experience working on mobile mining equipment and component diagnostics
- Experience as a mechanic and repair of mining equipment. Familiarity with our fleet of equipment preferred
- Strong communication skills and a demonstrated ability to build positive working relationships with coworkers
- Experience in safe rigging practices and procedures required
- Demonstrate computer literacy and working familiarity with Microsoft Office procedures
