About your Role

The Controller is responsible for leading the accounting, financial reporting, treasury, budgeting, and financial compliance functions for Magenta Capital Corporation ("MCC") and Magenta Mortgage Investment Corporation ("MMIC"). This role ensures the integrity of financial information, supports strategic decision-making, maintains effective internal controls, and oversees all regulatory, lender, investor, and audit reporting requirements.

Reporting to the Vice President, Finance & Accounting and Chief Compliance Officer, the Controller will play a key role in supporting the continued growth of both entities through strong financial stewardship, process improvement, and leadership of the finance team.

What you’ll work on:

Financial Reporting, Accounting and Taxation

Oversee all accounting operations for MCC and MMIC, including general ledger, accounts payable, and month-end close. Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS.
Maintain accounting policies and procedures and ensure consistency across both entities.
Prepare management reporting packages and financial analyses for executive leadership and the Board of Directors.
Ensure compliance with applicable tax, regulatory, and corporate filing requirements liaising with external tax consultants.
Oversee GST/HST filings, T4/T5 reporting, corporate tax support, and annual information returns

Treasury & Cash Management

Manage daily cash flow, liquidity forecasting, and banking relationships.
Monitor borrowing facilities and lender covenants.
Support financing activities, including credit facility renewals and lender reporting requirements.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Planning

Lead annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes.
Develop financial models to support strategic planning and growth initiatives.
Analyze operating results against budget and forecast, identify key variances, and provide actionable recommendations to management to control expenses.

Audit & Stakeholder Reporting

Lead annual external audits and coordinate all audit deliverables.
Act as the primary finance contact for auditors, tax advisors, lenders, and external stakeholders.
Support compliance with lender, investor, and regulatory reporting requirements. Prepare and review lender covenant calculations and compliance certificates.

Internal Controls & Process Improvement

Develop, implement, and maintain effective internal controls and risk management processes.
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency through automation and process enhancements.
Ensure segregation of duties and strong control practices across finance operations.
Support system implementations and finance transformation initiatives.

Leadership & Team Development

Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting and finance team.
Establish performance objectives and support professional development.
Foster a collaborative, accountable, and service-oriented culture.
Drive continuous improvement across financial processes and reporting.

What you should have:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or related field.
CPA designation.
7-10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
2-3 years of experience as a hands-on controller or in a leadership role.
Advanced excel skills and strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong understanding of IFRS.
Process improvement and continuous learning mindset.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Strong team orientation and interpersonal skills.
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
