The Financial Controller is responsible for accurate and timely financial reporting, owning the month-end and year-end close, and continuously improving the processes and systems that support it. This is a hands-on role that manages journal entries, reconciliations, schedules, reporting, cash flow forecasting, and inventory accounting, while guiding a small distributed accounting team across the Philippines and Pikesville, MD. As the company’s Acumatica power user, the Controller will own and optimize accounting and reporting workflows within the ERP, partner closely with the CFO, and maintain strong relationships with banks, auditors, and external advisers.

- Own the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close and the monthly reporting calendar.
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, supporting schedules and financial statements. Step into transaction-level work as required.
- Own the balance sheet: reconciliations, inventory accounting, fixed-asset schedules, and accruals.
- Own the financial side of licensor and inventor agreements, including minimum guarantee (MG) requirements, reporting compliance, and statement preparation.
- Build, document and strengthen processes: close checklists, approval workflows, controls, reconciliation standards and reporting routines, within Acumatica ERP and alongside it.
- Own the AR collections and review process, including deduction tracking and audit, delegation and follow-through on team action items, and regular reporting to CFO.
- Oversee cash, banking activity, AP payment runs, and payment controls, including Excel-based weekly cash planning and short-term forecasting, with appropriate segregation of duties.
- Coordinate audit, tax and other external-adviser requests and develop direct working relationships with auditors and banks.
- Handle intercompany transactions and accounting for the company's Canadian branch, including year-end settlement on a cost-plus basis.
- Guide and develop a small distributed accounting team while keeping clear personal ownership of critical work.
- Build documentation and cross-training that protects continuity.
- Maintain US GAAP-compliant accounting policies and apply them consistently.
- Travel periodically to the Maryland office for planning, audit, banking and leadership work.
Qualifications:
- Recent, hands-on US GAAP experience is required, with significant progressive accounting experience in a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or comparable role.
- Strong technical accounting and balance-sheet expertise, including inventory, fixed assets, reconciliations, accruals, and financial reporting, with the ability to work directly in the details.
