About Mamu Tshishkutamashutau Innu Education
Mamu Tshishkutamashutau Innu Education (MTIE) provides education to approximately 1,000 students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 at Sheshatshiu Innu School and Mushuau Innu Natuashish School in Labrador. We are committed to providing a culturally grounded, student-centred learning environment that supports student success and strengthens Innu language, culture, and community connections.
About The Role
MTIE is seeking a collaborative and knowledgeable Safe and Inclusive Schools Itinerant to help create safe, caring, and inclusive learning environments across our schools.
Working closely with the Director of Student Services, school administrators, educators, families, and community partners, you will support positive student behaviour, mental health and well-being, crisis prevention, and trauma-informed practices. You will develop policies and resources, deliver professional learning, and provide practical guidance to school teams through school visits and remote support.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development, review, and implementation of MTIE's Safe and Caring Schools Policy and related procedures to promote consistent, safe, respectful, and inclusive school environments.
- Develop, coordinate, and deliver professional learning in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, PBIS, ASIST, safeTALK, trauma-informed practices, Mental Health First Aid, behaviour management, and de-escalation, according to program requirements and qualifications.
- Support schools in developing behaviour management strategies and positive behaviour support plans. Provide consultation on complex behavioural needs and practical recommendations for prevention, intervention, and continuous improvement.
- Promote trauma-informed practice that recognizes the impact of adversity, stress, and trauma on student behaviour, learning, and relationships. Support mental health awareness, student well-being, and appropriate referral pathways.
- Establish and maintain a standardized system to track staff training, certifications, renewal dates, and professional learning needs. Document consultations and support initiatives, prepare reports, and maintain confidentiality.
- Build relationships with families, community agencies, mental health professionals, and crisis response services to support coordinated approaches to student safety, behaviour, and well-being.
- Use technology to provide consultation, coaching, professional learning, and follow-up support. Develop and share digital resources, facilitate virtual collaboration, and maintain secure records and communication.
- Travel to schools to assess needs, provide direct support and professional learning, develop practical action plans, and evaluate the effectiveness of strategies. Balance school visits with remote consultation and respond to emerging priorities.
- A degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, Counselling, Child and Youth Care, or a related field.
- Experience in educational settings, student services, behaviour support, mental health, or inclusive education.
- Knowledge of positive behaviour support, PBIS, trauma-informed practices, and classroom and school-wide behaviour management.
- Experience delivering professional learning, staff training, coaching, or consultation.
- Knowledge of mental health promotion, suicide prevention, crisis prevention, and de-escalation.
- Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Proficiency with technology for virtual learning, consultation, record management, and reporting.
- A valid driver's licence and ability to travel as required.
- Certification or experience in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, ASIST, safeTALK, Mental Health First Aid, PBIS, or related programs.
