Original job description
We are on a mission to accelerate the deployment of climate solutions by precisely quantifying decarbonization. We do this by developing the fabric that connects technology, policy and markets to every project developer.
Our Values
We are Tenacious
We are relentlessly focused on solving important problems for our customers that will help their carbon projects be more successful in improving the health of our climate.
We are Precise
Trust is paramount. At Mangrove we operate with surgical precision because we know that the success of our customers' carbon projects relies on their unwavering trust in our data and our platform’s meticulous ability to track CO2 and its respective emissions.
We are Thoughtful
We believe that the right solution requires a deep understanding of our customers’ needs and challenges. This understanding is manifested in every design and every solution that we build.
About The Role
As Founding Product Designer, you will own the experience of Mangrove's platform - setting the design standard, leading design-heavy projects end to end, and turning dense data into workflows that clients can run on their own.
Design Ownership
- Own design-heavy projects end to end: frame the problem, put up options, draw the final screens, and stay with the work through build via PR reviews and ongoing communication. Product owns scope and timeline; you are accountable for design.
- Partner with product on the projects it leads: build on top of product's wireframes and prototypes, propose alternatives, and drive the decision
- Take part in the review of every UI pull request, testing the build in a local or preview app before it merges
- Ship small design PRs where it makes sense: a copy fix, a spacing correction, a state that was never built.
- Provide light project management for small features and design implementations, tracking progress and coordinating deliverables across engineering and product.
- Watch clients and implementation engineers use the platform - for example, sitting with an implementation engineer standing up a new client and noting where they leave the UI for a spreadsheet or a script, or following a client through a week of flagged data points end to end.
- Translate those findings into scoped design solutions that let clients self-serve, and flag where design and UX can remove pain points.
- Produce wireframes engineering can build from directly, in Figma or AI prototyping tools.
- Build and expand a shared component set, with primitives separated from feature code, so product and engineering teams build faster.
- Encode Mangrove's design standards as AI skills directly into the necessary repositories.
Successful candidates are likely to have the following qualifications and experiences; however, we strongly encourage you to apply even if you don't meet all of the items below.
- 5+ years of experience as a product designer on data-intensive B2B software, in high-growth or early-stage environments.
- A portfolio that shows dense data made usable: tables, filters, dashboards, charting, bulk workflows, audit trails or reporting.
- Demonstrated ability to lead 0→1 design work or significantly improve an existing product.
- Experience building or substantially shaping a design system or component library.
- A hands-on research practice: interviews, observation sessions and usability tests turned into scoped design decisions.
- Comfort reviewing implementation in a preview build and working with Git and Markdown, with enough front-end knowledge (HTML, CSS, Javascript, React) to ship PRs and speak precisely with engineers.
- Fluency in Figma and active use of AI tools (Claude, Claude Design, Claude Artifacts or similar) to prototype and hand off faster.
- Experience in regulated, compliance or audit-heavy domains is a plus.
- Accountable owner: You stay with a design until it's built correctly, not just until the file is handed off.
- Systems thinker: You reach for proven patterns and existing components first, and turn one-off decisions into reusable standards.
- Customer-centric: You're attuned to how project developers and implementation engineers actually work, and design for the jobs they need done.
- Opinionated, low-ego: You put up options, argue for one, and commit when the call is made.
- Product-minded: You know when to ship fast vs. refine, and can scope design to what engineering can build this cycle.
- Credible communicator: You're clear, concise, and confident - with engineers, clients, and leadership, in writing, 1:1, or in front of a room.
- Mission-aligned: You care deeply about accelerating decarbonization and enabling trusted climate impact at scale.
- Competitive salary
- Meaningful equity stake
- Comprehensive benefits
- High-impact role with direct influence on company direction
- Work with a dedicated team focused on delivering impact in key decarbonization pathways including carbon removal and low carbon fuels
- Flexible work arrangements (remote/hybrid)
- Semi-annual team on-sites in Toronto
