Who is Manmade looking for?

We’re looking for a Senior Accountant to join our growing finance team in Montreal.

Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, the Senior Accountant will play an important role in the day-to-day accounting and financial reporting functions of the business. This is a hands-on role for someone who has a strong understanding of accounting fundamentals, can independently own key areas of the accounting cycle, and wants to develop their career within a rapidly growing company, acting as a key partner to the Financial Controller.

The ideal candidate is a CPA with approximately 5 years of relevant accounting experience, including meaningful experience working in an industry accounting environment. Experience in retail, apparel, ecommerce, consumer products, or another inventory-based business would be considered a strong asset.

Responsibilities

Take ownership of key areas of the financial close processes, ensuring financial information is complete, accurate, and recorded on a timely basis.
Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepaid expenses, depreciation, inventory-related entries, and other month-end adjustments.
Own and review assigned balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules, investigating and resolving discrepancies on a timely basis.
Prepare financial statements and related management reporting and perform preliminary review including investigating and explaining significant variances.
Perform account and variance analysis, identify unusual trends or transactions, and communicate findings to the Financial Controller.
Work closely with the AP Specialist, providing accounting guidance and review where required, and helping ensure transactional accounting processes flow accurately into the general ledger.
Assist with year-end audit requirements, including the preparation of supporting schedules, documentation, and responses to auditor requests.
Support tax filings, regulatory reporting, and other compliance requirements.
Help maintain and improve internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures.
Review accounting processes and financial information with a critical eye, while proactively identifying errors, unusual trends, control gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
Assist with implementing accounting system improvements and new financial tools or integrations.
Act as a key resource to the Financial Controller and take ownership of accounting matters independently, escalating significant or complex issues where appropriate and participating in special projects.
Take on additional areas of ownership as the finance function and company continue to grow.

Qualifications

CPA designation is an asset
Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting within a related industry
Experience in an environment with fast-growth is considered an asset.
Proficiency in Excel, financial software and ERP systems.

Responsabilités

Prendre en charge des éléments clés du processus de clôture financière afin de s’assurer que l’information financière est complète, exacte et comptabilisée dans les délais requis.
Préparer et comptabiliser les écritures de journal, notamment les charges à payer, les frais payés d’avance, l’amortissement, les écritures liées aux stocks ainsi que les autres ajustements de fin de mois.
Prendre en charge et réviser les conciliations de bilan ainsi que les documents justificatifs qui lui sont assignés, en enquêtant sur les écarts et en les résolvant dans les meilleurs délais.
Préparer les états financiers et les rapports de gestion connexes, effectuer une première révision et analyser ainsi qu’expliquer les écarts importants.
Effectuer des analyses de comptes et d’écarts, identifier les tendances ou transactions inhabituelles et communiquer les constats au contrôleur financier.
Collaborer étroitement avec le ou la spécialiste des comptes fournisseurs, fournir des conseils comptables et effectuer des révisions lorsque requis, tout en veillant à ce que les opérations comptables soient correctement intégrées au grand livre.
Participer aux exigences de l’audit de fin d’année, notamment en préparant les documents justificatifs et les annexes nécessaires ainsi qu’en répondant aux demandes des auditeurs.
Soutenir la préparation des déclarations fiscales, des rapports réglementaires et des autres obligations de conformité.
Contribuer au maintien et à l’amélioration des contrôles internes, des politiques comptables et des procédures.
Examiner les processus comptables et l’information financière avec un regard critique et identifier de façon proactive les erreurs, tendances inhabituelles, lacunes en matière de contrôle et possibilités d’amélioration.
Participer à la mise en œuvre d’améliorations aux systèmes comptables ainsi qu’à l’intégration de nouveaux outils et systèmes financiers.
