Career Opportunity and Primary Roles / Responsibilities

We are seeking a Satellite Bus System Engineer to design structural, thermal, power distribution, attitude control, propulsion, CD&H, TT&C/PDT, FSW, and interface architectures that support payloads and mission operations for current and next-generation remote sensing and communications satellites. The successful candidate will lead the definition, design, integration, verification, and on-orbit support of platform subsystems while ensuring compliance with mission requirements and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

Architecture Concept & Requirements

Translate mission-level requirements (CONOPs, mass, volume, power, envelope, pointing accuracy, lifetime, redundancy, reliability, etc.) into system requirements and allocate them across platform subsystems including Structures, Thermal Control System (TCS), Electrical Power System (EPS), Guidance, Navigation & Control (GNC), Propulsion (PROP), Command & Data Handling (C&DH), TT&C/PDT, and Flight Software (FSW).
Develop Platform Architecture Documents, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), and Design Descriptions.
Manage requirements and maintain bidirectional traceability throughout the program lifecycle.

Concept Trade Studies & Feasibility Analysis

Lead trade studies related to structural designs, thermal control concepts (MLI, heat pipes, radiators, etc.), and power generation solutions, including solar array and battery technologies.
Perform feasibility assessments to support platform architecture decisions.

Detailed Design

Oversee the detailed design of major platform subsystems, including Structures, TCS, EPS, Propulsion, C&DH, Communications & Telemetry, GNC, and payload interfaces.
Conduct Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), fault-tree analysis, reliability assessments, and availability studies.
Ensure compliance with mission requirements and payload specifications.
Maintain platform-level performance budgets.
Support Flight Software (FSW) and Satellite Reference Database development activities.

Cross-Functional Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement

Present technical status, risk analyses, and trade-study results to senior leadership and stakeholders.
Coordinate and maintain ICDs between payload and platform subsystem teams.
Support DC and RF harness design activities, platform layout, and payload accommodation.
Contribute to proposal development and early program definition activities, including Phase 0 and Pre-Phase A studies.

Integration, Verification & Validation (IV&V)

Develop verification plans, test matrices, and validation procedures for unit, subsystem, and platform-level testing.
Coordinate, supervise, or support:

Structural vibration, acoustic, and shock testing.
Thermal cycling and thermal vacuum testing.
Power distribution functional testing.
Closed-loop testing on avionics testbeds.

Support Flight Software integration and verification activities.

Technical Leadership & Mentorship

Mentor and lead multidisciplinary teams of junior and intermediate systems engineers and interns.
Act as a technical liaison with customers, partners, and external suppliers.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
Contribute to internal knowledge management, process improvements, and engineering standards development.

Configuration, Documentation & Standards Management

Establish and maintain platform engineering standards, including structural margins, thermal control strategies, power bus architectures, and redundancy philosophies.
Ensure analyses, software, documentation, and deliverables are maintained under configuration control within the PLM environment.
Support major design reviews, including SRR, PDR, CDR, MRR, and TRR.
Contribute to technology roadmap and innovation initiatives.

Launch Site, On-Orbit & Operations Support

Support launch-site activities, interface checklists, pre-launch verification procedures, and early-orbit checkout operations.
Provide real-time engineering support during launch, commissioning, anomaly investigations, and contingency operations.
Support spacecraft operations development and associated operator training.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline.
Minimum 10 years of spacecraft systems engineering experience on LEO, MEO, and/or GEO satellite platforms.
Deep understanding of spacecraft bus subsystems and subsystem interactions.
Experience with power electronics design and high-precision attitude control hardware.
Strong understanding of aerospace systems engineering principles.
Hands-on experience supporting system integration, testing, troubleshooting, and problem resolution.
Experience using Confluence and Jira.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to simplify complex challenges and develop practical solutions.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
French language proficiency is considered an asset.
