Original job description

About Manning Elliott

At Manning Elliott, we believe great work starts with great people. As one of British Columbia’s largest independent regional accounting firms, we take pride in delivering exceptional accounting and advisory services while building lasting relationships with our clients and our team. We offer a collaborative, supportive environment where continuous learning, professional growth, and community involvement are part of everyday life.

The Role

We’re looking for a Senior Associate, Valuations and M&A to join our M&A and Valuations group in Vancouver. In this role, you’ll work primarily on business valuation engagements, supporting clients with matters such as succession planning, shareholder transactions, tax and estate planning, financial reporting, and other business decisions.

You’ll support valuation engagements through each stage of the process, from gathering and analyzing information to preparing working papers and draft reports. You’ll work closely with senior team members and have opportunities to participate in client discussions while developing your understanding of businesses, industries, and the financial factors that influence value.

Your transaction background will be put to work on valuation files, for example in normalizing earnings and working through the financial information behind a deal, and on selected M&A and transaction advisory engagements as they arise. Because transaction activity varies with client needs, most of your time will be spent on valuation engagements.

What You’ll Do

  • Support business valuation engagements by gathering, organizing, and reviewing financial, operational, and industry information.
  • Assist with analyzing historical financial statements, forecasts, budgets, and other business information, including normalization adjustments, to identify trends and factors relevant to value.
  • Assist with valuation calculations and financial models using appropriate methodologies under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Conduct company, industry, economic, and market research to support valuation assumptions and conclusions.
  • Prepare schedules, working papers, draft report sections, and presentation materials that clearly document the analysis performed.
  • Participate in client discussions alongside senior team members and assist with following up on information requests and outstanding items.
  • Assist with drafting valuation reports and other client deliverables, incorporating review feedback and maintaining high standards of accuracy and consistency.
  • Organize and manage assigned tasks across multiple engagements, communicate progress, and raise questions or potential issues promptly.
  • Maintain organized engagement files and handle confidential client information with care.
  • Support selected M&A and transaction advisory assignments as opportunities arise, including financial due diligence, working capital analysis, and preparation of transaction materials.
  • Participate in team knowledge sharing and contribute to templates and process improvements while continuing to build technical and professional skills.

What You Bring

Education and Professional Development

  • An undergraduate degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related area.
  • Current enrollment in the CBV Program of Studies, or a clear commitment to enroll in and complete the program, is required. Candidates who have already completed the program are also encouraged to apply.
  • A CPA designation or progress toward the CPA designation is an asset, but is not required.

Experience

  • Approximately 2 to 3 years of relevant professional experience, including practical exposure to business valuation or transaction engagements.
  • Experience analyzing financial statements, forecasts, and business information and preparing supporting schedules or working papers.
  • Experience gained in a transaction services, valuation advisory, or corporate finance group, or in public accounting, is preferred.
  • Previous exposure to M&A, transaction advisory, financial due diligence, succession planning, or corporate finance is considered an asset, but is not required.

Skills and Attributes

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and comfort working with financial models and detailed financial information.
  • Comfort using AI tools to work more efficiently (for example in research, drafting, and data analysis), with sound judgment on accuracy and client confidentiality.
  • A developing understanding of valuation concepts and methodologies, with an interest in strengthening technical knowledge through the CBV program and hands-on experience.
  • Sound research, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify relevant information and ask thoughtful questions.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to prepare organized, professional work for review.
  • Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and respect for confidentiality.
  • Ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and respond constructively to feedback in a collaborative environment.
  • A client-service mindset and an interest in building a long-term career in valuations, with exposure to M&A and transaction work as experience develops.

Why Join Manning Elliott?

At Manning Elliott, you’ll find the best of both worlds: meaningful client work and the support, collaboration, and accessibility of a mid-sized firm.

  • Supportive Culture: Work with approachable colleagues and leaders who value collaboration, balance, and your success.
  • Professional Development: Continue building your valuation skills through hands-on experience, mentorship, training, and support as you progress through the CBV program.
  • Broader Exposure: Build a strong foundation in valuations, while applying your transaction experience, with opportunities to contribute to M&A and transaction advisory work when engagements arise.
  • Community Impact: Get involved in community initiatives and firm-supported activities that make a positive difference.
  • Flexible Work Options: Benefit from flexibility within core working hours and hybrid work arrangements that support both personal and business needs.
  • Team Connection: Take part in team-building activities, social events, and wellness initiatives that help you feel connected.
