Specific Accountabilities

  • Lead advanced analytical problem-solving, using Python, SQL, and Databricks to transform operational, financial, and market data into decision-ready insights.
  • Design and interpret complex analytical outputs (trends, anomalies, scenarios, and forecasts) to develop KPIs, recommend performance improvements, new strategies, and risk controls.
  • Develop and maintain AI-enabled analytics solutions, including building and deploying Copilot agents to automate recurring analysis, explain metrics, and accelerate insight delivery for stakeholders.
  • Conduct financial and economic analysis (revenue impacts and marginal cost analysis) to support strategic planning and capital allocation.
  • Collaborate closely with data engineers and analytics teams across the organization to define data requirements, improve data quality, and evolve dashboards, self-service analytics, and decision tools.
  • Serve as a trusted liaison between Analytics and business teams including Customer Service & System Performance, Finance, Fundamentals & Strategy, and Investor Relations.
  • Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, AI capabilities, and regulatory changes, ensuring analytics practices evolve with the business and external environment.
  • Contribute to team capability development, including mentoring, documentation, training materials, and promotion of analytics and AI best practices.

Scope / Dimension

  • This position has no direct reports but provides technical guidance, mentorship, and analytical leadership to junior and intermediate team members.
  • Acts as a key contributor within a multi-departmental analytics and operations ecosystem, supporting enterprise-wide optimization objectives.
  • Exercises independent judgment on complex analytical and operational issues with financial and operational impact.
  • Demonstrates broad business, technical, and system-level understanding, including interdependencies between assets, customers, financial outcomes, and regulatory metrics.
  • Scope covers major pipeline systems across Canada and the U.S., including liquids pipelines and related entities.
  • Regularly influences senior internal stakeholders by explaining complex metrics, trade-offs, and system behaviors that impact performance and financial results. Required to communicate and exercise influence on internal stakeholders regarding system operation, as well as system performance, including the complex relationship of the metrics.

  • 7+ years of experience in pipeline operations, midstream energy, or operational analytics roles with increasing responsibility.
  • Proven experience analyzing operational and near-real-time data (e.g., AVEVA PI System, SCADA-derived data, or similar operational platforms).
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL and Python, with hands-on experience building analytical workflows on cloud analytics platforms (preferably Databricks).
  • Solid experience with Excel-based analysis and automation, including VBA, for operational and financial use cases.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver decision-ready dashboards and analytics using Power BI or equivalent tools.
  • Practical experience using AI-assisted analytics and Copilot agents to automate analysis, explain metrics, or support scenario modeling.
  • Ability to develop what-if scenarios and sensitivity analyses to evaluate operational, market, and regulatory changes.
  • Strong communication skills with a proven ability to translate complex analytics into clear executive insights, including concise PowerPoint materials.
