Job details

Job type: Full-time
Workplace: Remote
Experience: Experience: 6+ years in process, mechanical, or chemical engineering with hands-on site or field engineering experience, including at least one commissioning or startup campaign
Posting language: English
Posted: Oct 5, 2026

Original job description

Mantel is developing the first molten-salt-based carbon capture technology which is designed to operate at the high temperatures found inside boilers, kilns, and furnaces – enabling highly efficient carbon capture that has not been possible until now. Carbon capture can be applied across industries to reduce emissions and achieve net-negative emissions. By solving for efficiency Mantel can cut costs substantially, unlocking carbon capture’s role in reaching net zero emissions by 2050. To learn more, go to: https://mantelcapture.com/

The Site Engineering Lead is Mantel's technical presence on the ground. You'll work closely with the VP of Engineering and Commissioning Director on-site to support execution of Mantel's first demonstration project - managing day-to-day technical activities and making sure nothing falls through the cracks in the field.

This role requires 1-2 years of FULL-TIME travel (or relocation) to Trois-Rivieres, Quebec and can transition to a remote job after that.

What you’ll do:

1. Demonstration Project Support

Support engineering execution on-site from test plan through steady-state operation
Translate P&IDs, process designs, and engineering packages into installed, commissioned systems in the field
Manage day-to-day technical activities on-site: contractor coordination, punch lists, field modifications, and issue resolution
Monitor system performance against design intent and flag technical issues clearly and quickly

3. Site Relationships & Coordination

Serve as Mantel's day-to-day engineering point of contact with the host site and its technical teams, alongside the Commissioning Director
Coordinate with EPC contractors, equipment vendors, and host-site operations staff
Maintain a safe, professional, and collaborative site environment at all times

4. Documentation & Reporting

Maintain accurate site records: as-builts, field change notices, commissioning logs, and performance data
Produce clear, concise site updates and engineering reports for the VP of Engineering and broader project team
Feed lessons learned back into the engineering base for future deployments

5. Performance Monitoring & Feedback

Support data collection and system monitoring for technical validation of the demonstration
Surface field observations and operational insights that inform design refinement and scale-up
Work closely with the engineering team to close the loop between design intent and real-world performance

Who You Are:

Experience: 6+ years in process, mechanical, or chemical engineering with hands-on site or field engineering experience, including at least one commissioning or startup campaign
Education: B.Eng. or B.S. in Chemical, Mechanical, or Process Engineering
Legal to work in either the United States or Canada

Put differently,

You've been on-site during startup/turnarounds and know what it takes to get a system running - you don't need someone to walk you through it
You read drawings, write procedures, and close punch lists - your documentation is clean and complete
You're comfortable working in industrial environments alongside operators, contractors, and plant engineers
You think on your feet when things go sideways, and you communicate problems clearly
You have genuine curiosity about carbon capture and the role industrial decarbonization plays in reaching net zero

What You'll Get: What You'll Get:

· A central role in building one of the most exciting carbon capture companies in the world

· Meaningful technical contribution from day one, with growing scope as the project portfolio expands

· Close collaboration with a small, high-caliber engineering and commercial team

· A clear path toward senior engineering leadership as Mantel scales

We provide competitive and holistic compensation to all our full-time team members, including:

· Highly competitive pay based on experience, including equity

· 90% subsidized medical and dental healthcare coverage for employees, 50% for dependents

· Unlimited vacation policy, mental health personal days, generous sick leave, plus a week-long winter break at the end of December

· Health/Fitness and cell phone stipend

· Paid parental leave
