Original job description
Company Description Mapleview Energy is a Canadian clean technology company founded in 2024 that develops intelligent circular energy storage solutions using repurposed electric vehicle batteries.
Founding Electrical Engineer
Mapleview Energy Inc. | Southern Ontario (shop in Elora, client sites across Ontario) | Full-time with equity, site attendance required
About Mapleview
Millions of EV batteries are going to retire over the next decade, and most still have years of useful life left. Mapleview takes those retired packs and repurposes them into commercial and industrial battery energy storage systems. We’re chemistry agnostic (NMC, LFP and more) and work with cells, modules or full packs.
Our systems give customers backup power, solar storage, EV charging support and room to add load without waiting on costly grid upgrades. We’re building them now for farms, hotels, industrial sites and EV charging projects, and we work directly with automakers and battery manufacturers on supply.
We’re a small team of engineers and builders, fabricating our own systems in Elora and developing our own battery management technology. Founded in 2024, we’re growing fast.
The role
You’ll be our first dedicated electrical engineer and own the electrical side of every system we build, from the first site visit to energization and handover. You’ll work alongside our battery integration engineer, but power conversion, protection, distribution and field execution are yours.
This isn’t a desk job and it isn’t a big-company job. You’ll design it, spec it, build it with the team, test it and stand behind it. As a founding team member with equity, you’ll set how Mapleview does electrical engineering and share in what we build.
What you’ll do
- Run site assessments and load evaluations, and turn customer needs and utility requirements into system architecture and options
- Produce AC/DC designs: single-line diagrams, schematics, layouts, cable schedules, grounding and bonding
- Run the calcs: conductor sizing, voltage drop, fault current, protection coordination, equipment ratings
- Design distribution, switching, isolation, metering, control power, E-stop and safety interlocks
- Spec and evaluate inverters, protection, contactors, disconnects, busbars, enclosures and controls
- Build BOMs, procurement specs and construction packages; review supplier submittals and substitutions
- Coordinate electrical contractors, inspect installs and solve problems in the field
- Write and run FAT, SAT and commissioning procedures; verify operating modes, protections and shutdown sequences
- Troubleshoot startup issues and deliver as-builts, test records, operating procedures and operator training
- Keep everything compliant with the Ontario Electrical Safety Code and CSA requirements, and help drive our certification pathways
What you bring
- Electrical engineering degree. P.Eng. is a plus; EITs working toward licensure are welcome
- Hands-on experience with BESS, solar PV, UPS, microgrids or other inverter-based systems
- Solid grasp of AC/DC distribution, protection, grounding and switching
- Real time spent testing, troubleshooting and safely energizing equipment
- Familiarity with OESC, equipment certification and utility interconnection
- Clear documentation and the confidence to lead contractors and suppliers
Bonus points
- Bidirectional power flow, parallel sources, grid-tied and islanded operation
- Insulation monitoring, safety controls and automated switching sequences
- You’ve built things outside of work: race car, solar shed, home lab, anything
You’ll fit here if
You want ownership, in the work and in the company. You’d rather be on site figuring it out than waiting for someone else to. You’re comfortable with ambiguity, move fast, and care about getting it right. You want to help build a company, not just hold a job.
What we offer
- $85,000 to $120,000 base plus equity. The mix is flexible: take a lower base for a bigger equity stake if you want more upside
- Health spending account plus travel and medical coverage
- Ownership of the electrical side of every system we build
- Your designs energized in the field within months, not years
- Work that keeps batteries out of landfills and puts them back to work
To apply: Send your resume and a few lines on something you’ve built or commissioned to info@mapleviewenergy.com.
