At March of Dimes Canada, our collective work matters. Our Community Support Services (CSS) team provides essential services that enable our clients to thrive. Whether their disability is physical, the result of brain injury, or aging, our more than 2,000 team members assist clients in their homes and across communities, to live as independently as possible.

The opportunity:

Known internally as Support Service Attendant, we have 1 new opportunity for a Part-Time Personal Support Worker in our Central region - Thornhill, ON. 

Schedule: Overnight 11pm - 7am on Thursdays, every other weekend, and holidays.

Starting wage: $23.11 per hour. This compensation is inclusive of a $3.00 per hour wage enhancement from the Ontario government for hours spent directly supporting clients. The wage enhancement does not apply to training and paid leave.

Hours: 15-30 hours per week.

Responsibilities:

Assist service users/clients in their own homes with non-medical activities of daily living in accordance with individual service plans and with March of Dimes Canada policies and procedures:

Personal care

Lifts and Transfers

Rising/retiring

Bowel and bladder procedures

Meal preparation and feeding

Range of motion exercises

Other light housekeeping duties

Perform duties in a professional manner, which respects the dignity and right to privacy and maintains consumer and staff health and safety.

Provide support to seniors in their homes, shifts will require travel across multiple locations.  Mileage kilometres are reimbursed.  (remove if not a senior position)

Qualifications:

High School graduate or equivalent

Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain

Experience working with individuals with physical disabilities, older adults, or as an informal caregiver considered an asset but not required

Good interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills

Knowledge of and abilities in transferring, lifting, bowel and bladder routines and other attendant care
duties

Physical Demands Self Analysis Required upon hire

Ability to work flexible and regularly scheduled hours

Responsibilities

Provide non-medical assistance with daily living activities in clients’ homes, following individual service plans and organizational policies. Support clients’ dignity, privacy, and safety, and travel between locations when providing care to seniors.

Requirements

A high school diploma or equivalent and current Standard First Aid and CPR certification are required, although applicants may be willing to obtain the certification. Applicants should have strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills, and knowledge of attendant care tasks; relevant experience is an asset but not required.
