Original job description

Estimator / Project Manager | General Contracting

Location: Parksville, BC

Full-Time, Permanent

Salary: $100,000 to $130,000+, depending on experience

You know how to price the work. You know how to run the work. Now you're looking for an opportunity where you can have more ownership over both.

MatchBox Consulting Group is working with an established Vancouver Island contractor to find an experienced Estimator / Project Manager for its growing General Contracting division in Parksville.

This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys both sides of the construction business: winning good work and delivering it well.

You'll be involved from the front end, evaluating opportunities, developing estimates and putting together competitive bids, then stay connected to projects through construction and completion.

You'll also have the opportunity to influence how the General Contracting business grows. This is a hands-on environment where good judgment is valued, decisions can be made quickly, and experienced people are given the autonomy to get the job done.

For a strong senior-level candidate, there is flexibility to expand the scope of the position to include greater project responsibility, leadership, pursuit strategy, and involvement in the continued growth of the division.

Why This Opportunity?

Real ownership

You'll have responsibility across the project lifecycle, from identifying and pricing opportunities through project execution and closeout.

Autonomy

You'll be trusted to make decisions, solve problems and manage your projects without unnecessary layers of management.

Influence what the company builds

Your estimating experience, construction knowledge and understanding of risk will contribute to decisions around which opportunities the company pursues.

Estimating and project delivery

If you enjoy both winning work and running projects, this position gives you exposure to both. You won't simply estimate a project and hand it off.

Opportunity to grow

As the General Contracting division continues to expand across Vancouver Island, there is an opportunity to take on broader project, client and leadership responsibilities.

Room for senior candidates

If you're already operating at the Senior Project Manager level, we encourage you to apply. The scope, responsibility and compensation can grow for someone capable of taking on a larger role within the business.

What You'll Be Doing

Prepare estimates, quantity take-offs and competitive tender submissions for commercial and industrial construction projects
Review drawings and specifications to establish scope, identify risk and develop bid strategies
Solicit, review and analyze subcontractor and supplier pricing
Evaluate potential opportunities and contribute to bid/no-bid decisions
Prepare tender packages, scopes and bid documentation
Manage awarded projects against schedule, budget and contractual requirements
Lead cost control, progress billing and change management
Maintain clear project documentation and communication between office and field
Work directly with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and field teams
Conduct site inspections and participate in project and progress meetings
Support quality, safety and environmental requirements throughout project delivery
Mentor and support Project Coordinators as required
Help improve the systems and processes supporting the continued growth of the General Contracting division

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who has developed a strong foundation in commercial or industrial construction and is ready to take meaningful ownership of their work.

Ideally, you'll bring:

Hands-on experience estimating commercial and/or industrial construction projects
Experience managing construction projects through execution and closeout
General contracting experience with a practical understanding of how projects are priced, awarded and delivered
Strong knowledge of quantity take-offs, tendering, scope review, subcontractor pricing and construction costs
Experience managing project budgets, schedules, contracts, progress claims and changes
The ability to identify scope gaps, construction risks and potential cost impacts
Confidence working directly with clients, consultants, subcontractors and field teams
Strong communication, organization and decision-making skills
The independence and judgment to take ownership of your work
A valid BC driver's licence

Approximately 5+ years of relevant estimating and project management experience is preferred, but the quality and relevance of your experience matter more than an arbitrary number of years.

Experience with HeavyBid or similar estimating software is an asset, not a requirement.

Compensation & Benefits

The anticipated salary range for this position is $100,000 to $130,000, depending on experience and qualifications.

For an accomplished Senior Project Manager / Estimator, compensation may extend beyond this range. Senior-level candidates are encouraged to apply.

For the right senior candidate, the role can be expanded to include larger or more complex projects, increased leadership responsibility, greater involvement in estimating and pursuit strategy, and a broader role in growing the General Contracting division.

The overall compensation package also includes:

Fully paid extended health and dental benefits
Paid time off
RRSP matching
Professional development and career growth opportunities

Interested?

If you've built your career in commercial or industrial construction and want more ownership, greater autonomy, and the opportunity to play a meaningful role in growing a general contracting business, we'd like to hear from you.

Whether you're an experienced Estimator / Project Manager ready for your next step or a Senior PM looking for a broader mandate, we encourage you to apply.

Apply through MatchBox Consulting Group for a confidential conversation about the opportunity.
