Facilities Coordinator – Training Centre

Location: Surrey, BC

Duration: Approximately 6-Month Contract

Work Arrangement: Full-Time Onsite

Schedule: 5 days per week, 7.5 hours per day

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Facilities Coordinator to support the day-to-day operation of a busy training facility for one of British Columbia’s largest utility providers.

This is a hands-on, onsite position responsible for ensuring the facility remains safe, operational, organized, and responsive to occupant needs. The role combines facilities coordination, customer service, workplace safety, emergency preparedness, technology support, and supervision.

Key Responsibilities

Perform daily facility checks to ensure the training centre is safe and ready for occupancy.
Identify, address, document, and report building and facility issues as they arise.
Coordinate service calls and work with internal stakeholders and external service providers.
Manage occupant facility concerns and route issues to the appropriate teams for resolution.
Work closely with administration and planning teams to support ongoing facility operations.
Maintain facility technologies and provide basic troubleshooting for laptops and other workplace technology.
Complete scheduled monthly maintenance activities.
Support workplace safety initiatives and proactively identify and resolve safety concerns.
Maintain an Intermediate First Aid certificate and perform first aid duties onsite.
Support and maintain the facility’s first aid program.
Support emergency management and life safety activities.
Coordinate with contractors, service providers, skilled trades, and other stakeholder groups.
Support facilities-related projects and contract work as required.
Supervise or coordinate personnel and activities as required.
Interpret and follow applicable rules, regulations, procedures, and standards within a complex work environment.

Required Qualifications

Minimum 5 years of project management experience or equivalent.
Good understanding of facilities management and day-to-day facility operations.
Previous experience supervising or managing people.
Experience with emergency management processes.
Strong customer service skills and a commitment to delivering a high level of service.
Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholder groups.
Strong planning, organization, and time management skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Teams.
Basic understanding of computer technology with the ability to troubleshoot common laptop issues.
Strong commitment to workplace safety with demonstrated ability to identify and address safety concerns.
Very good written and spoken English communication skills.
Ability to interpret and follow rules, regulations, and standards in a complex work environment.
Ability to lift up to 23 kg and remain ambulatory for most of the workday.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Economics, or a related discipline.

Nice to Have

Training in facilities management.
Training in basic project management.
PMP designation.
Strong technical writing skills.
Background working with IT systems and technologies.
Experience within an electrical utility environment.
Experience working within complex safety environments.
Experience with shipping/receiving or materials management in a large commercial environment.
Experience coordinating with a variety of skilled trades.
Experience managing projects and contract-related work.
Experience managing emergency management and life safety programs.

Work Environment

This is a full-time onsite position in Surrey, BC and is well suited to someone who enjoys being actively involved in the daily operation of a facility. The successful candidate will work closely with employees, service providers, contractors, trades, and internal teams while balancing facility operations, safety, customer service, and emerging priorities.
