Original job description

Project Coordinator – Commercial Construction

Location: Surrey, BC | Full-Time, Permanent | In-Office

Salary: $60,000–$85,000 annually

You know your RFIs, shop drawings, change orders, and construction schedules. You understand how projects get built, and you know that good coordination keeps everyone moving.

MatchBox Consulting Group is recruiting an experienced Project Coordinator for a well-established specialty construction contractor delivering major commercial and institutional projects across Western Canada.

We're looking for someone who understands construction, takes ownership of their work, and knows how to keep projects organized, on schedule, and moving forward.

You'll work alongside experienced Project Managers on major projects, including hospitals, data centres, schools, and commercial developments. This is an opportunity to join a respected contractor with a strong project pipeline and genuine room to grow.

What You'll Be Doing

Coordinate RFIs, shop drawings, submittals, change orders, and project documentation.
Support Project Managers with scheduling, procurement, cost tracking, and progress billing.
Review construction drawings, specifications, and material take-offs.
Coordinate with general contractors, consultants, suppliers, fabrication teams, and site personnel.
Track project milestones, material deliveries, and outstanding approvals.
Assist with estimating, pricing, purchase orders, and change requests.
Identify potential issues early, follow up on outstanding items, and keep projects moving.

What You Bring

Practical Commercial Construction Experience Is Essential.

1–3+ years of project coordination experience with a general contractor, specialty contractor, or commercial construction company.
Working knowledge of RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, change orders, and construction schedules.
Experience reading construction drawings and understanding construction methodology.
Familiarity with Canadian commercial construction practices and CCDC contracts is an asset.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
Confident communication skills and the ability to work effectively with construction professionals.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office; AutoCAD and construction management software are assets.
A diploma or degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.

You're organized, proactive, and accountable. You don't wait to be reminded. You understand that an unanswered RFI or delayed material order can hold up an entire crew, and you take pride in getting things done.

Important – Before You Apply

This role requires hands-on experience in commercial construction, ideally gained in British Columbia.

Candidates with only academic qualifications, project management certifications, or experience in unrelated industries, without relevant construction experience, will not be considered.

Must already reside within commuting distance of Surrey, BC.
Full-time, in-office position. No remote or hybrid arrangements.
No relocation assistance.
Must be legally authorized to work in Canada. Immigration and employer sponsorship are not available.

Why Join?

Our client has been building in Western Canada for more than 45 years, delivering specialized construction packages ranging from $2 million to $20 million.

They offer the stability of an established contractor, exposure to major projects, and the opportunity to develop your career with an experienced team.

Career growth: Opportunities to develop into increasingly senior project delivery roles.
Major projects: Hospitals, data centres, schools, and complex commercial developments.
Professional development: Continuing education and tuition support.
Competitive benefits: Company-paid benefits and wellness support.
Work-life balance: Three weeks' vacation, holiday closure, and early Fridays.
Strong culture: A collaborative team that values initiative, accountability, and quality work.

Interested?

If you know commercial construction, take ownership of your work, and want to build your career with an established contractor delivering major projects, we'd like to hear from you.

Apply through MatchBox Consulting Group for a confidential conversation about the opportunity.
