Original job description

Assistant Project Manager - Transmission & Distribution / Substations

Matchtech are supporting a key client with the requisition of an Assistant Project Manager within the T&D sector. The Assistant Project Manager (APM) will assist project managers (PM) on a variety distribution or substation and transmission line projects of varying complexity. This position will manage and act as a coordinator and project liaison to the client, subcontractors, vendors, and other stakeholders, throughout the project. The APM will maintain document control, manage databases and coordinate and track project activities and communications so project goals are accomplished within the prescribed timeframe and budget parameters.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in the management of projects from concept through completion, including siting, environmental, permitting, planning, estimating, engineering, right-of-way acquisition, project controls, RFP and contract services, procurement, constructability reviews, material management, construction management, and project closeout.
Monitor and manage project scope.
Manage contractor submittals, requests for information (RFIs), supplemental design instructions, and site drawing logs.
Verify contractor compliance with quality, safety, environmental, and material management requirements.
Support contract execution, including change order management, field change directives, invoice approvals, and schedule management.
Work with project controls teams to maintain project cost reporting, scheduling, work breakdown structures, accounting system project setup and closeout, and field progress tracking.
Assist with the preparation of project budgets, cost reports, cash flow forecasts, and project status reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Participate in project risk reviews.
Coordinate project closeout activities and project documentation.
Collaborate with programme teams to mitigate project issues and support successful project execution.
Establish and track project KPIs and performance metrics across assigned project portfolios.
Promote and support project safety programmes, policies, training requirements, and the safety performance of project team members and subcontractors.
Undertake other duties as required.

Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline from an accredited programme.
Minimum of 5 years' applicable experience.
Technical & Project Controls Experience
Experience supporting project controls, scheduling, reporting, cost management, and project administration activities.
Experience administering contractor documentation and change management processes.
Experience using Primavera Contract Manager or similar change management software preferred.
High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Communication & Leadership Skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced and demanding project environment.
Willingness to work additional hours when required to support project demands.
Ability to work collaboratively with Owners, Contractors, Project Managers, Engineers, Designers, and other stakeholders within a multidisciplinary project team environment.
Ability to resolve design and drawing issues and support successful project delivery through effective coordination and communication.

Preferred Skills

Experience with Primavera Contract Manager or equivalent contract/change management systems.
Experience supporting complex utility, transmission, distribution, substation, or infrastructure projects.
Strong stakeholder management and coordination abilities across multiple concurrent projects.
