Manufacturing Engineer – New Graduate
Position Summary
We are looking for a motivated Manufacturing Engineer – New Graduate to join our Engineering team. This is an entry-level opportunity designed for a recent Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering graduate with 0–2 years of experience who is interested in developing a career in manufacturing engineering, process design, and automation.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Advanced Manufacturing Engineer and plant teams, gaining hands-on exposure to quoting and advanced engineering (process design, cycle time, tooling and capital cost estimating, automation) and Continuous Improvement (CI) activities within the manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
· Support the Senior Advanced Manufacturing Engineer with new business quoting and manufacturing feasibility activities.
· Assist in reviewing customer drawings, specifications, and technical requirements.
· Support process design for new programs, including manufacturing concepts, operation sequencing, and preliminary process plans.
· Assist with process flow development, equipment requirements, tooling concepts, and manufacturing layouts.
· Develop cycle time estimates for manual, machine, and automated operations, and translate them into labor and equipment requirements for quotations.
· Prepare tooling and capital equipment cost estimates (fixtures, dies, gauges, robotic cells) and support capital justification for new programs.
· Support automation projects (robotic welding, material handling, vision/inspection, error-proofing) from concept and cost-benefit analysis through runoff.
· Work with Engineering, Production, Quality, and other plant teams on manufacturing improvement initiatives.
· Support Continuous Improvement (CI) activities focused on productivity, efficiency, quality, and waste reduction.
· Assist with troubleshooting manufacturing and process issues on the plant floor.
· Participate in process trials, validation activities, and implementation of new or improved manufacturing processes.
· Collect and analyze manufacturing data, including actual vs. quoted cycle times, to identify improvement opportunities.
· Support documentation of manufacturing processes, work instructions, process flows, and engineering changes.
· Participate in cross-functional projects and learn the complete manufacturing process from initial quote through production launch.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
· Recent graduate or 0–2 years of relevant experience in manufacturing, engineering, co-op, internship, or similar technical environments.
· Strong interest in manufacturing engineering, process design, cost estimating, automation, and Continuous Improvement.
· Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
· Basic understanding of manufacturing processes, cycle time, and tooling/capital cost drivers.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
· Exposure to CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar tools is considered an asset.
· Exposure to automation, robotics, PLCs, or robot simulation tools through coursework, capstone projects, or co-op is considered an asset.
· Previous co-op, internship, or project experience within a manufacturing environment is considered an asset.
· Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
· Self-motivated, curious, and eager to learn in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
