Job Title: Bilingual Camp Manager

Location: Remote Camp – James Bay Region Employment Type: Rotation / Remote Camp Reports To: Niigaan Camp Director

Position Summary

Matrix is seeking a Bilingual Camp Manager to oversee the daily operation of a remote camp and ensure a safe, organized, professional experience for clients and staff.

The Camp Manager is the primary on-site point of contact and is responsible for coordinating accommodations, reservations, attendance tracking, client service, documentation, safety inspections, inventory, billing, and day-to-day communication between camp departments.

This is a hands-on position. The successful candidate must be comfortable supporting kitchen and housekeeping operations when required, including light food preparation, dishwashing, restocking, and other general camp duties.

Key Responsibilities

Manage camp reservations, accommodation lists, check-ins, check-outs, attendance records, and meal attendance sheets.
Monitor reservation emails and respond to operational needs throughout the day.
Coordinate closely with housekeeping to ensure rooms are prepared for arrivals and departures.
Complete accommodation contracts with clients upon arrival and manage camp key distribution.
Maintain accurate camp documentation, including contracts, meal sheets, housekeeping forms, inspection records, and other required paperwork.
Conduct daily inspections of camp units, stairways, exits, exterior areas, and common spaces.
Identify and report maintenance or safety concerns.
Monitor kitchen temperature logs and verify food quality before meal service.
Maintain an accurate inventory of camp keys, food, supplies, and materials.
Support client attendance tracking during meal-service periods.
Provide clients with information regarding their stay, departure dates, parking requirements, local roads, and nearby communities.
Prepare take-out meals for late arrivals when required.
Assist cooks during busy periods with dishwashing, light food preparation, beverage restocking, and general kitchen support.
Coordinate and safely guide delivery vehicles while on site.
Operate the camp truck periodically and report any mechanical concerns.
Prepare supply and material requisitions.
Review food orders prior to submission.
Receive weekly supply deliveries and complete inventory once products are stored.
Confirm receipt of food products, including meat orders.
Complete weekly billing documentation accurately and within required timelines.
Monitor camp email regularly and remain available by work phone throughout the shift.
Maintain professional, courteous, and proactive communication with clients, staff, vendors, and management.

Qualifications

Fluency in English and French is required.
Previous experience in camp management, hospitality, remote-site administration, accommodations, food service, or a similar operational role is preferred.
Strong administrative and organizational skills.
Comfortable working with email, spreadsheets, attendance records, billing documentation, and other administrative systems.
Previous experience coordinating or supervising employees is an asset.
Comfortable supporting kitchen operations, including light food preparation and dishwashing when required.
Strong customer-service and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in a remote environment.
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Comfortable completing daily inspections and identifying safety or maintenance concerns.
Valid driver's licence and ability to operate a camp vehicle as required.
Knowledge of the James Bay region, surrounding roads, and nearby communities is an asset.

What We Are Looking For

The ideal candidate is professional, reliable, organized, and comfortable wearing multiple hats. This position requires someone who is equally comfortable handling administrative duties, assisting a client, checking inventory, supporting a cook during meal service, inspecting a camp unit, or helping coordinate a delivery.

The Camp Manager must remain alert, accessible, and responsive throughout the workday. Personal phone use, headphones, or activities that interfere with availability and situational awareness are not appropriate during working hours.

Work Environment

This position is based at a remote camp and requires flexibility, strong communication, and the ability to work closely with a small team. Duties may change depending on occupancy, client requirements, deliveries, weather, and operational needs.
